All the charging stations I see in a suburb of Columbus Ohio are always empty. The local utilities and governments have spent who knows how much to build them, and I never see anyone using them.

I do remember in the parking garage I used in downtown Columbus they had a charging station. Often times in the morning I saw A Tesla parked there with an estimate 1-2 hours until fully charged. I'd come back 9 hours later at the end of the day, and the Tesla would still be sitting there, fully charged for hours.

Public charging depends on the thoughtfulness of it's users, which is why it will never work for the masses.

Well you wouldn't go to the pharmacy to get gas anymore would you? No of course not but 110 years ago that is where people bought their gas from.

EVs are still in their infancy. Give it some time for the infrastructure and tech to evolve.
I agree with you 100%.

Have had a Nissan Leaf for five years. Only maintenance cost so far was to replace the 12 volt battery. We use it for trips around town. Charge it at home. Use our Maverick Hybrid for long trips. With these 2 vehicles our carbon footprint is significantly reduced.
EVs are here to stay. It's not perfect for everyone's situation but more and more people are realizing the benefits of EVs. The changeover to EVs is coming but it will take a while.

Not at a Tesla super charger location. Not sure why anyone would own a CCS EV.....

Stopped by a Loves truck stop in Quartzite AZ last night on the way back to PHX from CA. Saw this line of cars leading to the EV charging station (where all stalls were full), with a Ford Lightning in the back. An older guy walked by me, looked at the line, laughed, shook his head and said “Go back to California!”.

Ever seen a line to take a piss?

Of course you haven't.

And the wait was probably 15 min to 30 min tops. While S.O. Waiting in line at the store restroom. There are lines everywhere. For everything.

Thought I would share my recent real-life recent experience with EVs. I drive a 22 Maverick eco-boost FX4, and it's great. Recently, I rented a Kia EV6 while on a trip to Southern California, and it's a fantastic car. My first charging experience went smoothly, with an 80% charge within 30 minutes. Great, right?! However, things changed when I drove from San Diego to Los Angeles. I had to visit four charging stations, all needing fixing, and half were out of order. The charging speed was slow, and they all had long waits. Most drivers I met were very unhappy with their purchase. I had to download three different apps and spent $60, a complete waste of money. Driving back, I wound up at a mall in San Clemente late at night with 9 miles left on the battery. After waiting over an hour, I paid another $20 for a 40% charge. My real-life experience with electric vehicles is that the infrastructure in America has a long way to go. Don't even think about it unless you have a home charger and a short commute. I'm glad to be back home with my Maverick.

I'm glad I have a hybrid for that annual pilgrimage to grandma's house at Thanksgiving. The traffic is ridiculous most years. Waiting for a charge would make me crazy.

You would have had a much better experience in a Tesla

I'm sure when Model T drivers got stuck they were teased endlessly when the horse and buggy drivers pass them on a muddy dirt road. Just sayin' ;)

When you own one, you learn all the dos and don'ts. And where to go to charge and where to avoid.

Ever hear of geo-caching? How about Pokemon?

My hobby was not only identifying ALL the possible charging areas, but memorizing all the FREE - Zero cost to me - Charging spots.

As an owner you learn to charge when convenient. You "opportunity" charge. Have an opportunity to charge 20 minutes at the drug store, plug in!

Have 2.5 hours opportunity to charge while at the movie theater, plug in!

Remember when "free wi-fi" was a perk to get you into a Starbuck, a hotel, or any other establishment? That's the trend now.

"Eat here and get free car charging."
"Shop here and get free car charging."
"Sleep here and get free car charging."

It's like $2 - $3 buck of power at industrial rates to charge a car. Establishments will eat that "customer acquisition cost" in a heartbeat.

There are free apps to tell you where all the free charging (or pay for charging) locations are.
