I can see the convenience of a hitch step.
However, this hitch step sticks out quite far from the bumper, I would be concerned about it being a magnet for being hit while parked and someone tripping over it in the dark. Also, the Maverick is prone to being totaled from minor hits from the rear due to the trailer hitch.
Just my thoughts...

I don't keep a hitch attachment in my hitch because my shins couldn't take it .

Picked up this step bumper step off Amazon for under 70 bucks with a $30 off coupon, has a little bit of a drop so that it doesn’t interfere with the license plate.

I like it. Will it work with the tailgate down? If it folded up when not in use I'd get one.

Experts suggest keeping the pin in hitch receiver to use as a tow strap attachment point . Haven't done it yet . Seems like a 👍 idea though .

Oof! The majority of the Mavs that are written off are not due to sheet metal damage, but to "frame" buckling when rear-ended. The hitch is mounted on the "frame" members, so adding things on to the hitch is actually going to increase the critical damage, not decrease it. Take it off.

What Master Blaster said. The vehicle is designed with bumpers to spread the force of an impact- this does the opposite, and puts impact forces right into the unibody that can't be repaired easily.
