This point has been beaten to death in several other threads.
You aren’t going to change our minds.

You’re claiming that your old S10 is a mini truck. Well, if you compare it to a Datsun L’il Hustler, Ford Courier, or VW Rabbit pickup your S10 no longer qualifies as a “mini truck“ either so what’s your point?

Most of us are old enough to know what size vehicles used to be, and understand that it’s apples and oranges to try and force an old paradigm on a new era.

The Maverick is a mini truck.

Although it has grown on me as a reliable and solid ride over 16,000 miles, I had instant buyers remorse driving my bloated pig Maverick away from the dealership. The Maverick is a full 10 inches longer than my old Ranger, and has a stupidly large turning circle to match. Happily, I've moved out of the congested city to the countryside, where the Maverick is more in it's element.

We've had a ton of threads here where the "it's a bloated pig" crowd and the "it's a tiny truck" crowd send volleys of arrows at each other. It all depends on where you're coming from. If you're coming from a bigger truck, the Maverick is tiny. If you're coming from a smaller truck, the Maverick is bloated.
10" longer for a crew cab...

I bet your old Ford ranger was a 3 seater, am I right? Your comparison is apples to oranges...

I've owned an Isuzu P'up that was tiny, a Dakota that was also kinda small and then a Ram that was relatively big . To me, the Maverick is like Baby Bear's bed, just right. 😬

I miss the parking brake lever on the console to help make those tight turns. Especially in the winter.

It's all relative my dude. That s-10 is massive compared to mini trucks from the 70s and 80s. You have to compare modern vehicles, to modern vehicles, so with that in mind, the maverick is very much a small, compact truck when compared to other modern trucks. My freaking roof is hood height on a full size truck, that shows how small the maverick is.

Crazy how big they've gotten. And expensive.

I just took possession of my new 2023 hybrid XLT today after a one year, one month, and ten day wait (but who's counting?). I have driven (and loved) F-150's since 1995 after discovering they were good for my back and well-suited to my environment (eastern ND). The decision to downsize came with the realization that the price of gas had reached the point where the difference in mileage between the F-150 and the F-50 would cover the payments for a new vehicle. I decided to take the plunge and thought I would share some initial thoughts on similarities and differences.

i do have to say that my first impression on getting in was that I was driving a toy truck. I momentarily panicked the salesman when I told him, "Deal Breaker! I can't get in with my (cowboy) hat on." The steering wheel felt small and I was sitting noticeably closer to the ground. But the seat felt good, and the visibility in all directions was much better than what I had with my 2018 F-150 crewcab.

On the road the steering seemed a little more prone to wandering, perhaps a function of the shorter wheelbase. But the ride, cabin noise levels, and sound system were virtually identical to the F-150, which put me very much at ease. Handling, too, was much the same. To celebrate my first day ND delivered one of its nastier surprises: 3" of heavy, wet snow that froze into concrete by morning, with slippery ruts wanting to pull you off the road. I had to engage 4x4 on the way in and wondered if I would be regretting my purchase the very first day. But the FWD in slippery mode felt every bit as secure. Deep snow may be another story, but that will have to be a later update. I also found the turn radius much tighter and better on the Maverick, plus I'm not riding over the curb during corners anymore. And it looks like it may fit in my smallish (1941) garage, another plus. Finally, transferring my stuff from one vehicle to the next reminded me that the more room you have, the more needless junk you tend to accumulate. All in all, my first impression is that my decision was the right one. I'll update this as time goes on.

Day two update: discovered the driver's seat height adjustment by accident. I can now get in and out without losing my hat. 🤠

Day four update: ND just delivered first Alberta Clipper of the year. Visibility virtually nil--down to 10 mph in places. Sitting closer to the road may have played a part. But FWD worked handled the mess just fine, especially in slippery drive mode. I am really happy with the Maverick and very impressed by how well thought through it is.

Yeah it a dumb parking lot behind the old Charlie's Bar in Paia. When I first moved here it was a open gravel lot. Charlie's would have live music and people would always be hanging and partying there. Now it a pay lot that you use a dumb app to pay. It also has no security and is now hidden from the road by a new building that I was standing on while taking the picture. Parking spots are super narrow to maximize land value. But it's the only good parking in Paia where you don't have to walk real far.
I had to let my passengers out before getting in the spot.
