First let me say that everyone has the right to put the keypad where ever they want.

But I want to ask the question, why do you feel that it should be hidden?
If there is a good reason, maybe more of us will want to hide them.
There's always the thought process that technically, its really a FIVE(5) button keypad, as the numbers double up 2 per button, which yields only a mere 15,625 (5^5) possible combinations. Now, if we program in a personal code along with the factory code, there's a 2 in 15,625 chance in finding the code. GIven enough time, somebody could start with 00000 to 55555 (using the buttons, not the marked 0-9) and eventually find the used code. - Not trying to scare anyone, I'm just good with numbers, and it may conceivably take some time going sequentially.

But after 10 wrong tries it locks you out for 24 hours.

(Or locks for 1 minute after 7 wrong presses. One or the other.)

Thieves probably love looking for Fords with keypads to break into because people somehow think leaving keys in a locked car makes them safe.
I've had cars broken into multiple times. Thieves can defeat most any security protocols. They don't need keys.

It's faster to just break the window, tow it away with a flat bed or trailer.

There is a green cord on the wheel well that you can pull to open the fuel door it your looked out
True, but it would be easier to put the keypad in an area more accessable in case my wife was using the truck.

Well the dealer says he cannot remove it or lower the price. Said it was part of the factory build sheet and can't be changed since it's now scheduled for production. So I guess I'll just let it ride and see how useful it is.
I thought I would have no use for the keypad before the truck arrived. I use it every day now.

Useful when your hands are mostly full, and it is easier to punch a code than put things down and dig into your pocket. Or when you are keyless and already putzing around near your truck and suddenly remember that you need something from inside the truck. Or when you want to run inside Wawa and grab your hoagie while leaving the AC running (remember that hitting 7&9 simultaneously locks all doors, even with the truck still running).

The truck won't stay running if you leave the vehicle with the Fob in your pocket?

Can't speak to that, XLT here so the key stays in the ignition.
Oh crap, I didn't even think about that. Haha. Disregard my question. :)

It's a good question, maybe one of the Lariat owners can answer it.

In my Honda, sometimes my wife would drop me off so I can pick up the take out order, she does a lap around the block and I realize the key fob is still in my pocket. The car will beep at you, but it still runs fine.

Yeah, the only reason I asked was because I thought you were leaving your FOB in the car, then hitting 7/9, to lock the doors. And I was wondering why you wouldn't just grab the keys, leave the truck running, and lock the doors with the FOB... Then you reminded me that the lower trims have to use the physical key lol. I didn't expect that the truck wouldn't stay running without the FOB. :)

I don't think this will fly per the manual. Note the first instruction is "Switch the ignition on". Has anyone opened that filler door while locked out?

I like the keypad and have had it on all of my vehicles since the late 80's. You don't have to lug a big bundle of keys to get lost or whatever

I need to try the AC trick. Since I got my XLT Mav used the keypad is one option that I need to use more and enjoy since I didn't get every option I could have wanted. The "lock or unlock all doors" is a great trick that saves the FOB battery, or as you say when you just want to grab something out of the back seat.

The KEYLESS ENTRY KEYPAD FOR VEHICLES WITHOUT FACTORY REMOTE START retails for $120. Include Installation for $24.00. Same price for KEYLESS ENTRY KEYPAD FOR VEHICLES WITH FACTORY REMOTE START. Pass on their offer and order it later.
One note that may matter to some.

The $230 is molded in color, so it will match your paint.

The $120 Keypad is black.
Do either of you know if we must select the $24 installation to get it simply programmed?
