Ford just went from a heroic, visionary, consumer-friendly auto manufacturer to a customer's worst nightmare. We all know about the 1st recall regarding the potential of an engine fire in the hybrid models and Ford's pathetic solution that did nothing except pat their buyers on the back and say, "See, all fixed." "Why don't you just calm down and go back to sleep". The 2nd recall is worded in much more serious language indicating that "this time" Ford will really fix it . . . just as soon as the non-existent parts arrive! By Ford's own admission, the engines have a block breach problem, meaning the block will break open spilling gasoline and oil everywhere. The ONLY fix is a new engine! Seems Ford has not wanted to pay the band and thus the class action lawsuit. What a freaking PR problem Ford now has in their lap! Did they learn nothing from the Pinto fiasco?
This article spells out the class action lawsuit:

This article gives you the same information but also includes a form to fill out if you want to join the lawsuit.

Yes let's all join a class action lawsuit and make the lawyers keep putting manufacturers against customers. As long as they get two parties to fight each other, their Law offices keep hearing dollar signs into their offices. Divide and prosper.

How about Ford Compensates only those that experience a failure, like double their money back.

Everyone else gets a free sticker for the visor that says if "A" happens, do "B".

Since 9999 out of 10,000 won't have this issue.

It's on par with the multiple engine fire recalls Hyundai has dealt in SUVs and cars within the last 10-15 years. Most recent were the 2018-2021 Elantra. People keep buying from these brands, saying, "it's only a few" so, why would the companies change?

I think we all know Ford has no fix for the problem. Maybe all we'll get is some extended engine replacement warranty or something like that. Maybe not, who knows, Hyundai was forced by the regulators to replace the engines in the Elantras, maybe we'll get lucky?

You don't know that and I'm not willing to roll the dice on my family's safety. I'd rather have the problem fixed correctly before I need to go down the "compensation" rabbit hole.

There is a fix . . . run a test and replace those engines that fail. An extended warranty will not give me peace of mind while driving with my kid in the back seat.

The law suit makes it sound like the fix requires tearing down the engine to find out if it's a problem or not. I doubt Ford is going to want to do that for 125k+ vehicles (remember that number is just the ones sold in the US, not Canada and south America) unless they are forced to.

Sell it keep your family safe, I believe Hyundai has a similar vehicle. If my family wants in any unsafe vehicle, I wouldn't work tomorrow and trade into something I felt they were safe in.

If you are mobility impaired you might be better off in a different vehicle.

If you are not mobility impaired, get out of the vehicle if there is smoke or fire.

If A then B.

Insurance is for stuff just like this.

I'm *assuming* Ford is smart enough to have made some minor adaptation to the 2024 engines to avoid this at least going forward, BUT...we shall have to see. Large companies are very risk averse when it comes to legal culpability, so if they already identified the issue internally they would have to be grossly negligent to have NOT fixed further model year production. I suppose only time will tell.

As others mentioned, Hyundai and a couple other brands have had very similar issues in recent years, and something this major really shouldn't be something that manufacturers get away with without providing a full fix to every vehicle that is affected, plus coughing up some extra for the trouble it causes.

These class action lawsuits usually take years to be resolved.

In the best interest of your family you should probably sell your Maverick asap and start with something else safer.

This has nothing to do with "pitting customers against manufacturers." Ford knew about this problem for some time yet chose to do nothing to correct it except their lame drill holes in the undercarriage "fix". Ford has even admitted this did nothing to solve the problem. It was a cheap band-aid. Ford needs to be held accountable for making a faulty product and since they won't accept responsibility on their own, one recourse is to sue. I'm betting if it were your truck that caught fire you'd be singing a different tune.
