Someone on another group pointed out that the guy that helped design the truck - Klaus de Mello, Vehicle Engineering Manager - mentioned in a video that the FX4 also had the 3.81 gearing.

Anyone confirm or deny this claim? I thought only the 4K got the 3.81?

The spec sheet only says 3.81 with 4k tow package, but that being said some FX4 will have 3.81 since they can have 4k package along with it.

Is it possible the FX4 without the 4K would have the 3.81 and they just aren't mentioning it? Doesn't seem likely to me but this other guys seems to think so.

Anything is possible although if Ford was going to use the same gearing it would have made more sense for production to merge the fx4 and 4k packages.

It would, but then they couldn't charge more money.

Ford has separated the parts. So the Tow and the FX4 will not have the same Transaxle. So that would tell me it is different ratios.

Ford Maverick FX4 also has 3.81 gears - same as 4K Towing? Crazy theory? Screenshot 2021-10-08 140642

If you get the 2.0 EB AWD with FX4 (but not with 4K Tow Package) it will have a 3.63 final drive ratio, not a 3.81.

Could be they include the 3.81 in the FX4 to give more low end power for off roading vs the standard AWD? Just continuing the hypothesis. I fully believe they don't but it's an interesting idea.

If they did it would show it in this part break down. It would say LHD 4WD Tow Pack 1 and 4WD SP Pack

Hello MaverickEcoBoost,

Im having trouble reading this, how do you know that the FX4 gets the lower gearing? Is there a code for it in this image?

The transaxle difference could just mean one gets an external oil cooler, one does not.

Look at the differences in F150 rear ends - you can get same ratios but different size ring gear (9.5 vs. 8.8 I believe).

Ford has separated the parts. So the Tow and the FX4 will not have the same Transaxle. So that would tell me it is different ratios.

Everything that Ford has released shows 3.63. Including the image right below mine. The absolute only way to get 3.81 is to have the tow package included. The parts list shows that there are two separate Transaxles. One specifically for towing. That would confirm to me that FX4 is only cooling and skid plates. There is nothing that says they get any added axle support.
