I realize there are already two other damper threads on the front page of this forum right now - popular topic!

I want one too, but not for anything close to $50, at least without trying the cheapest possible first.

So I just ordered this one, which is even less expensive than the Dee-Zee: Amazon.com: MADAT Tailgate Assist Shock Fits for Ford Maverick 2022 2023 Rear Tailgate Damper Truck Lift Assist Kit Truck Liftgate Support Struts : Automotive

Anything less than 4.5 stars makes me hesitant to order, but the sample size for the current two-star average is quite small, so I figured it's worth a shot.

Anyone tried it yet? If not, I will report back after install.

I got mine "free" with ford pass points so didn't bother me. I will say a cheap damper will likely wear out quicker so buyer beware. One thing that annoys me with these damper designs is losing a tie down/bottle opener on the tailgate.

Well that didn’t last long! Interested to see whether mine even gets shipped.

I’m conserving the Ford pass points as cash equivalent. Still might look at the official accessory eventually if the other(s) doesn’t work.

I know I might be in the small minority of Maverick owners who feel this way, but to me there is no need for one. I am 76, have had 2 major back surgeries and had open heart surgery 9 months ago, yet have no problem with tailgate. It is very light. Have more problems moving the bag of groceries I unload than with tailgate LOL. Just my opinion, so don’t come down too hard on me.

Nut and bolt are not appropriate for application. Weld looks messy on part they displayed on Amazon site. Recommend avoiding, unless inclined to be test guinea piggish.

Same one I used in this video at the 10 minute mark. I would say that the bolt is indeed not like the factory one and to get it to hold you have to use a impact or drill driver to tighten - other than that they function the same.

There's an even cheaper alternative on Amazon, if price is your only consideration: IAQWE Truck Tailgate Assist Struts at only $20.99. It does have slightly higher ratings (a whopping 2.5 stars) than the MADAT unit, but only four reviewers. I suspect the 5-star review was from the seller, since the kit seems to come with the wrong hardware...

Personally, I chose to spend the extra few dollars, and went with the DeeZee unit. It was simple to install and works quite well. You get what you pay for!

You can put another type of tie-down in that spot after removing the “bottle opener” own. A flat D-ring that won‘t get in the way of the lift assist.

And you’d still have. bottle opener on the other side, if you really need it. Or replace that one with the same kind of tie- down to match.

Alright, after the bolt discrepancy made me hesitant and it looked like my order might not be in stock anyway, I took another look at the Dee-Zee and discovered that changing the seller from the default Marketplace seller to Amazon itself would save me about $10. (How ironic.) So I went with that and canceled the other. For about $8 more than the knockoff I think it's worth the peace of mind.

I generally agree, the tailgate is easy for me to open and close. However, the reason I’m getting a tailgate assist is because I’ve got a little one that’s just starting to walk and I don’t want her to get her head or fingers smashed if the tailgate slips out of my hand. Otherwise, I’d probably just skip it and spend the money on something else for the truck.

Great reason. Us old folks forget about that

I installed the DEEZEE, yesterday. Construction on mine looks good...
One suggestion though, The "Loctite" Blue on the bolt (tailgate end) is a little thick. I pre-threaded the bolt, all the way into the nut, (which was tight already) then backed it out and installed the unit.

Good ideer. I took your advice and added a small d-ring, works great and tailgate closes fine.

I tried to do this and it got stuck. It’s currently in my oven heating up so I can just remove it.
How is it holding up for you? The reviews specifically from Maverick owners suggest it has a tendency to fall off
