In the middle of our first long trip. Typical day is 300 miles. After 3 legs the Maverick has had a dead battery. Using Air Force One and Blue Ox. Safety issue in that with dead battery the vehicle cannot be put in park or the emergency brake cannot be engaged. Hoping to get an answer as to what is causing the dead battery.
I bought a 300 amp portable charge unit for that purpose.

I plan to connect the power line on the 6-pin connector to a trickle charger in the Mav so the MH can charge the Mav's battery while on the road. I found this set up to work towing my Fusion Enrgi and it worked well for me.

I ran the "power" line from the 7 pin connector on the motorhome into the Maverick jump post under the hood. I did use a diode just in case...but more as a current limiter than to stop battery power from going back into the motorhome from the Maverick battery.
I have about 500 towing miles on it now. Zero battery issues.

Leaving today from Jensen Beach, FL to Maggie Valley, NC with intermediate stops in Ocala, FL and Perry, GA. Hopefully all will be well. Only problem with rig is that after applying brakes (Patriot II) and lighting up the rears, only the driver's side stays on after applying and the passenger side does not. Don't know if harness, diode set up or LasFits. Will try and diagnose at one of the stops. On the road again 🎼

How did you/installer set up the lights? Over the years, I've used magnetic lights, extra bulbs inside the existing taillights, and diodes for towed vehicles. I'm not happy with any of those choices for the Maverick, so I'm debating adding removable fixtures so I can keep the wiring intact. I'm considering mounting fixtures bolted onto the back rail of the tonneau.

On another note, Demco is finally shipping Maverick Baseplates according to an email I got from them yesterday, 8/14/23. I'm waiting for eTrailer to offer them at a better price. The Demco website still says "Coming soon".

Can anybody tell me how they’re running the engine, shifting thru gears every 6 hours, as prescribed by Ford, without unhooking? How do you get engine to run without moving?

You just need to step on the fuel pedal...and it will start running. Just like my C-Max did. Here is the instruction in the C-Max manual. Ford should have included it in the Maverick manual:

I just hop in, with the Maverick still connected, take it out of Neutral Tow, then start it and let it run until 1 of the temperature bars lights up (Lariat) and then I run it through the gears, turn it off, then do the process to re-enter Neutral tow. I made a little card to follow so I don't need to try to remember all the steps.

We have not towed yet but will be using the Roadmaster baseplate and NSA ReadyBrute tow bars and surge brake system for ours. Have wireless magnetic lithium rechargeable lights. Just waiting for he Mav to be delivered. Scheduled for build next week. Have a tow rating of 7500 lbs so the Mav should be a piece of cake.

This is my little tower. 3.5L V6 Ecoboost got me 13.5 mpg on a 2622 mile trip from WY to WA to OR and back home. Maverick was an easy tow...with the DEMCO baseplate.:

Hey Brad glad to see you got the Mav configured. Looks like a sweet towing machine. Did you decide to keep the C-Max? We just completed a 1300 mile trip from Ohio down through Kentucky and Tennessee. Got about 10-12 MPG keeping it at 65-70MPH. Has the V8 Godzilla engine and 55 gallon fuel tank. Will be interesting to see what we get towing..

Now that the Maverick has a successful tow under its belt, I made a post to sell it in the Facebook Dinghy group...but haven't made a big effort yet. Our 2024 Maverick has a 11/27 build week, so I will need to sell the C-Max by then to make room when that comes for my wife.

Our 2017 C-Max Titanium is a sweet 42mpg car with less than 26,000 miles (only towed 3500 miles) and it is still under a Ford ESP warranty until 1/2026 or 48k miles. No damage and a roadmaster baseplate/wiring. So it's available!

We have a Roadmaster setup the installer included a power line that ties into the Maverick power stud so we don’t have to start the Maverick every six hours worked great on our recent trip.

Starting the Maverick every 5 or 6 hours....is more than just charging the battery. We already know that isn't enough on most setups! The idea is to start the engine to circulate oil inside the eCVT assembly too. Note they tell you to put the Maverick in reverse and forward gear while running for the one minute they recommend. If the engine does not start...just flick the throttle to the floor and let off.

THANK YOU! Kudos to Ford, and Demco for responding to market needs with great new products. These forums are vital complements to the information they have provided. It seems to happen with nearly every new product we buy these days. We can't have it all!
