Hi. New user here and a new potential Maverick Owner hoping to get some advice from some who may have towed with their Maverick. I know it's a new vehicle so I don't know how many people are out there have used it to tow a boat yet I went and saw one at the dealer today and its a really nice vehicle. I looked at the Hyundai Santa Cruz too last week. It has a 5000 LB tow capacity but, the Maverick seems so much better.

Anyway, my main question is around towing. Right now I have 2 cars with 200k miles. One is a 2008 Element that has a great cargo capability when needed, but it really can't tow anything. I think it's a 1500 lb limit. The second vehicle, which bought 7 years ago for towing and for future use by my teenage daughter to use when learning to drive, is a 2004 AWD Escalade.

My boat is about 3600 lbs on the trailer. That includes battery and fuel weights, and 150 lbs in gear. My trailer is a single axle trailer with surge brakes. Since both the Escalade and the Element are getting up there in age and mileage, I was thinking of selling them both and getting a smaller but capable towing vehicle for me, and then a basic used small AWD CUV for my daughter now that she is in college.

I have been considering a Maverick Lariat with the 4K towing package.

I'm in Northern IL and tow my boat to lakes around here and in WI. It's generally pretty flat where I go with some occasional hills but nothing really big. I have 2 main concerns:

1) How badly does the rear end squat with about 400 lbs of tongue weight on it? My Escalade has automatically adjustable air shocks in the rear so when the rear get loaded down, it adds air until it's level. It works great. The Santa Cruz also had automatic adjusting rear air shocks.

2) I am concerned about pulling the boat out of the water. The ramps can be steep, they are wet and often can have algae on them which makes them slippery. The Escalade pulls the boat out like it's not even there. But it's a 6.0 V8, AWD, huge 285/55R20 tires, and an 8100 lb tow rating. I was wondering if anyone has experienced any issues pulling their boat out of the water using a Maverick.

Thanks

Power is not the issue. Traction and weight are the issue.
When you start pulling a boat up a steep slippery incline, especially one that is heavier then the actual vehicle you will always open up the possibility for something bad to happen. That is how people end up in the water.

Now with that said, I have not received my maverick yet, but I live in south Florida and I tow a couple boats every weekend with my F150. I will occasionally use my maverick to tow my boats, but if I were you I'd look into a heavier vehicle. The maverick has plenty of power, but it has no weight. I am sure it is capable, but that's not the point.

Thanks. Yeah, I was not worried so much about the power but the overall traction, which is dependent on the weight, tires, drive system, etc.

I just looked up the weight and see the Maverick is about 3700 lbs. So yeah, it does seem to be almost the same weight as my boat/trailer combo.

Although have seen people with full sized pickup trucks, which come in around 4500 to 5000 lbs, pulling larger boat/trailers (26 and 28 footers) that weigh more than the tow vehicle up the ramps and don't seem to have an issue.

Only real problem I saw last year was not even related to the tow vehicle. There was a guy with the new "Cigarette" type boat who left both of his outdrives DOWN while pulling it out. The huge metal on concrete scraping noise sure didn't sound good. :(

Ok I'ma be honest I really did not read that whole thing and so sorry if I didn't actually get to the real question. Plus I noticed the post was like forever ago. But I'm currently towing a 2500 lb boat and trailer and it is going smooth as hell.

My boat is ~2000lbs and my mav pulls it no sweat. Recently took it out on a trip 50 miles each way on some hilly terrain and averaged over 20mpg at 62mph.

I pulled my 16.5 aluminum at around 3200. It pulled with ease. I used the Tow mode. With the AWD I had no problems at all launching. The rear end maybe dropped and inch or so.

I tow with my Maverick XL awd no 4k and it does great. I tow my Montauk 170 that’s over 3,000 lbs. I sold this Maverick last week as my new one just got here (Lariat with 4k and FX4)

Did you use a 2" drop hitch or something else?

There is a person in my neighborhood that was towing what looked to be a 16 ft runabout.
I was more concerned with the trailer being too small than the truck.
I have a 14 ft fishing boat and pulled it with my hybrid

Hi I’m thinking of getting a 14 boat. Do you have any issue with getting up the ramp?
