Hi. New user here and a new potential Maverick Owner hoping to get some advice from some who may have towed with their Maverick. I know it's a new vehicle so I don't know how many people are out there have used it to tow a boat yet I went and saw one at the dealer today and its a really nice vehicle. I looked at the Hyundai Santa Cruz too last week. It has a 5000 LB tow capacity but, the Maverick seems so much better.
Anyway, my main question is around towing. Right now I have 2 cars with 200k miles. One is a 2008 Element that has a great cargo capability when needed, but it really can't tow anything. I think it's a 1500 lb limit. The second vehicle, which bought 7 years ago for towing and for future use by my teenage daughter to use when learning to drive, is a 2004 AWD Escalade.
My boat is about 3600 lbs on the trailer. That includes battery and fuel weights, and 150 lbs in gear. My trailer is a single axle trailer with surge brakes. Since both the Escalade and the Element are getting up there in age and mileage, I was thinking of selling them both and getting a smaller but capable towing vehicle for me, and then a basic used small AWD CUV for my daughter now that she is in college.
I have been considering a Maverick Lariat with the 4K towing package.
I'm in Northern IL and tow my boat to lakes around here and in WI. It's generally pretty flat where I go with some occasional hills but nothing really big. I have 2 main concerns:
1) How badly does the rear end squat with about 400 lbs of tongue weight on it? My Escalade has automatically adjustable air shocks in the rear so when the rear get loaded down, it adds air until it's level. It works great. The Santa Cruz also had automatic adjusting rear air shocks.
2) I am concerned about pulling the boat out of the water. The ramps can be steep, they are wet and often can have algae on them which makes them slippery. The Escalade pulls the boat out like it's not even there. But it's a 6.0 V8, AWD, huge 285/55R20 tires, and an 8100 lb tow rating. I was wondering if anyone has experienced any issues pulling their boat out of the water using a Maverick.
Thanks
