I flat tow my 2023 hybrid with NO issues. Just put in Neutral tow. Gone on 3 trips with traveling over 700 mile. I use Blue Ox equipment and swapped out lower valance FX4 bumper.

But Ford has had 2+ years to work out the bugs. A little head start.

I also used Blue Ox equipment with the lower valance replaced with the FX4 type. Minimal cutting and besides it looks better!

I had my lower valance/bumper replaced with the FX4. It has the opening for toad equipment and I'm using Blue Ox. It dosent interfere with the shutters.

I own a 2021 Honda Ridgeline RTL-E and a 2023 Maverick XLT hybrid. I have the same sentiments as you have. They each have their own purposes and the Maverick was purchased for our motorhome-flat towing. At times I want to drive them both at the same time!
