I would recommend the Falken too (will get a set on my Maverick as soon as I get it). I've run them and they were amazing during snowmaggedon here is Dallas (I run them all year). For extreme harsh winter, I would get a dedicated winter tire / studded like it was mentioned but it all depends. If things are too ugly outside, I just use my wife's Bronco
Bro, your profile says you live in Dallas. Now I know the Park Cities can do whatever they want, but they can't make it snow.

Why you talking about snow tires? :)

PS: Once lived in MPLS. One year in the early 90's it snowed 30 inches on Halloween eve. (Early and rare.) It got cold. At Thankgiving it snowed another 20 inches. It was still cold. We had snow banks until April........and it wasn''t all melted until the end of April.

Moral of the story: Live where your children ask: "Daddy, what's a snow tire?".

It's a black steelie. I used google images and searched "liquid metal atom".

My Lariat Lux Hybrid should finally arrive in October (9/18 build week). Did any current hybrid owner feel a need to put winter tires on if they live in the snow belt? I currently have a Cmax hybrid and have skipped putting the winter tires on a couple years and never really noticed a difference given traction control/ABS/etc.
Costco has a decent deal on a set of 4 winter tires thru the end of August. One of the offerings was Firestone Destination A/T2. You may be able to find a set of steelies an XL owner is selling on eBay or Craig’s list and get them mounted for winter use.

My wife and I love the snow and have regular trips to Colorado for some primitive camping (even during snow season). So I know a thing or two about snow and snow driving 🙂

We had a pretty big storm in 2021 (to Dallas standards) that brought the city to a halt where more than 200 peole died (we are not prepared for that type of weather and we rarely have treated infrastructure/highways/overpasses). So every street was a chaotic mess.

My wife was pregnant at that time and if it wasn't because we had those tires in her old Santa Fe and the experience from our Colorado trips I believe it could've been a really different story.

We saw cars swerving out of the highways, slipping down "uphill" streets and collisions. We pulled a couple of people out of snow banks in our neighborhood. We had doctors appointments so we had to go out and venture into the mess, but we never had an issue. Hence, why they have my full endorsement even if I just live in the hot state of Texas lol

Up here in the White Mts I have Blizzak W90 from Town Fair Tires mounted on a set of mav xl rims. The rims were free from a kind soul but the shipping was a few hundred $$. They seems to work quite well for the 3 months I used them.
I've had very good performance with General Altimax Arctic winter tires in the past. I went with the W90 because TFT gave me a really great deal on them last Feb when we got our Mav.

Or if he only wants for short winters he can check Utires.com (used tires delivered at quoted price). $672.36 for
Set of (4) Driven Once 225/65R17 Bridgestone WeatherPeak 102H - 10/32. ???

I did okay last winter with the stock Continentals, but am getting new A/T tires this Friday.

I'm getting the Falken WildPeak, A/T3W, 235/65/R17 from Discount Tires.

Thise look like a decent deep snow or mud tire, but I doubt that they will work well on an ice base. They look more like an offroad summer tire. They have almost no siping and have a reduced amount of rubber in contact with the road. Maybe they're ok in Utah, but I'd be worried about them out east where the factory Contis will have more actual stopping traction.

Cross Climate 2's are a very good all season/all weather tire. Get them and IMO you really can't do any better.

I give another vote for Blizzak WS90 tires...The Michelin Primacy had problems in two inches of wet snow, no problem in the least with Blizzaks...Once you have had winter tires, you will want them in the future...I also put CrossClimate2s on the wife's 4wd Explorer and those work great also...

When you buy new tires, have them siped(will help winters). Studs do improve grip for compact snow over nothing but shine on ice. Here in Washington we do get a lot of black ice and freezing rain on the west side. This will be my first winter with the Maverick. Stock tires and will probably just roll tonneau cover forward and let snow weigh the back down. Maybe toss a couple sand bags at the back. If it's bad I'll take my 4x4. I'll put studs on the steelies once my daughter takes ownership.
Where do I apply to be your newest daughter? 😁
