My Lariat Lux Hybrid should finally arrive in October (9/18 build week). Did any current hybrid owner feel a need to put winter tires on if they live in the snow belt? I currently have a Cmax hybrid and have skipped putting the winter tires on a couple years and never really noticed a difference given traction control/ABS/etc.

When you buy new tires, have them siped(will help winters). Studs do improve grip for compact snow over nothing but shine on ice. Here in Washington we do get a lot of black ice and freezing rain on the west side. This will be my first winter with the Maverick. Stock tires and will probably just roll tonneau cover forward and let snow weigh the back down. Maybe toss a couple sand bags at the back. If it's bad I'll take my 4x4. I'll put studs on the steelies once my daughter takes ownership.

I don't have my Hybrid yet, but a friend gets around fine on FWD-only with Michelin Crossclimate2 tires. Also heard good things about the Falken Wildpeak A/T Trail.

I would recommend the Falken too (will get a set on my Maverick as soon as I get it). I've run them and they were amazing during snowmaggedon here is Dallas (I run them all year). For extreme harsh winter, I would get a dedicated winter tire / studded like it was mentioned but it all depends. If things are too ugly outside, I just use my wife's Bronco

I have run my stock Continentals for two winters so far, and have been quite satisfied. Someday I'll get winter tires, but so far I haven't felt compelled to do so.

I have driven with FWD in snow for 30+ years and never had problems. However, the stock tires on my FWD Maverick were not good on snow/ice so I bought Blizzak snow tires and the improvement was dramatic.

I read a number of threads on this forum before I decided the winter tires would help and the Blizzak’s were a popular choice that worked for me.

I too have driven FWD vehicles for many years. (My other car is a FWD Aveo I've had for 13 years.) The only tires I've had are all weather and haven't had any problems. When the factory supplied tires wear out that's what I will go to.

I ran Blizzak's on my front drive 2007 HHR for 11 years during the winter months in northwest northern Michigan, where they get lake effects snows all winter long. Can have 1 foot of snow or more from mid-October to mid-April, or not????? (There were mornings on my way to work, I prayed to make the 2.5 mile trip to the highway because the roads weren't plowed yet)

Drive over mountain passes a lot and have got caught many times in snow/ice. I'm looking to trade up to Continental Cross Contact LX 25 to get better traction, tread life and some snow performance without sacrificing much on roll resistance.

Well what I can tell you about dedicated snow tires they get less mpg for sure. I lost 2 mpg on my ford ecosport on highway. I did two trips 2 weeks apart. About 270 miles . One with snows one without. 2 mpg loss with snows. Exact same trip. Same speed wind about the same. Temp within 5 degrees. Still worth it to me for much faster stopping distance. Its a lot. Youtube videos a plenty to show.

I feel like if you have to ask, you should probably just give snow tires or at least 3 peak rated tires a shot. Can you drive without them, sure. If you can swing it financially, the stopping distance is night and day.

I had Discount Tire order a steel wheel for me and mount the best of my Contis on it as a spare. The new steel wheel cost $80.

Any chance you have a picture of that wheel? Discount tire has no picture of that steel wheel just the 99 dollar one for some reason.
