Ford Maverick Rear ended in my 2023 Lariat Tremor... Sub 1500 miles 20230722_171830

I just have bad luck with vehicles and other drivers on the road. On the way to a friend's house today I got rear-ended getting onto the interstate in my new 2023 Maverick that I waited 8 months for and have had for a bit over a month. Not super optimistic since the trailer hitch is bent down a bit but will have to wait and see what the collision center says about the frame rails. Also the back left parking sensor has fallen out and is dangling inside the bumper.

Anyone have any insight into how available parts are for bumper repair and trailer hitch repair? I fear frame damage but is there anything else I should be concerned about after a rearending like this? It wasn't crazy hard of an impact since I was still moving when they hit me but all their force went into the trailer hitch receiver.

Hopefully all is well and the damage is minimal. Best we can do without seeing in person is advise to take it to a shop via your insurance and see what they say. Multiple opinions are better, but they insurance is covering it then it's really up to you if you are going to try and hunt down parts (assuming the damage is minimal) or just let a shop do it. I don't think prices would be the cheapest currently, but once you get the estimate you can start looking up what parts you'd need specifically. Wouldn't be surprised if that sensor was the most expensive thing lol.... or the plastic clip that retains it

Let us know what they say and we can help you price it out.

There won't be any frame damage, because there is no frame...

Ford Maverick Rear ended in my 2023 Lariat Tremor... Sub 1500 miles MAV rear fram

To retro-fit a Trailer Hitch, you are replacing the rear frame. With a Hitch equipped frame..
I have viewed a few videos on this. Since, doing a retro is about the last MOD, I plan to add to my MAV...

Yeah I understand it's a unibody but if enough of the key structure is bent it can't be repaired. And from my understanding the trailer hitch is attached to a structural frame rail part of the unibody.

From my limited understanding, it can be done. I think the question is, can the shop you take it to do it, and what will the insurance say?

Technically its quite possible. From what I have heard on here alot of folks with that krinkle end up financially having to total it because of the complexities of value and percieved safety ratings and requirements. However I have legally seen 2 entire unibody vehicles with totally creamed structural damage, stitched back together in the middle. And if you total it someone will probably do the repair work and end up with a salvage title, and be quite happy about their salvage discount. It really all depends on you and your financial situation and your personal perception of value. I dont know myself as it was a big thing for me financially to buy our Tremor, yet I am a bit of a welder and fabricator and have done structural repairs bigger than that before. I could just do it myself and build a custom aluminum bumper and skid plate setup back there and be happy with a nice chunk of change from their insurance company.

As others have said, it's really going to be which shop you take it to. Do they have a frame straightening bay? And will they stand by their work for the insurance to consider it? And is the cost less than the cost of the Maverick?

One good thing is that the price of your truck is probably MORE than what you paid for it (even today with the prices declining some), so less likely for the insurance (their insurance, actually) to want to total the vehicle. Even if it's a $20k fix, it's still less than the Tremor package Maverick almost brand new.

Do not just take it to a parts changer. And I know you want to take it to the dealer, but your best bet is to find a collision shop that handles actual repairs and not just changing out panels, bumpers, doors, etc.

I only had one accident in my ‘97 ranger..5am on ramp to Honolulu and the guy in an Accord fell asleep and rammed me. His car was inoperable and my truck did not even look like it was touched!

Damn, sorry to see this. Please keep us posted once the damage adjuster and shop take a look. Glad you are okay.

This is why I got a trailer hitch step. Not saying it would have saved you in the situation, but it can protect your bumper in a minor fender bender.

Yea, this is really a bummer. But, since unibody has been around a long time now a good shop should be able to straighten it. might be weaker after, though. If it was me, and insurance would cover it, since we intend our (my wife's) Maverick to be with us the rest of our lives - we are both 75 and in now a year only 4000 miles on it because we also have my 2003 Grand Cherokee and we do not pull anything heavy nor will we haul regularly heavy loads - I would be satisfied with a fix and keep it ... and maybe sell it to a family member with a salvage title and buy it back as the same and save with that salvage title!
