Brass is SUPER soft too. You'd have to hit it just right and the chances of that happening to pierce even a 4ply tire are VERY slim. Most steel belts in tires would stop it from a major puncture. But, I've seen crazier things.
I know. I didn't pick my brass up for a long time and never had one end up in a tire so I figured it was a given that a tire was a soft POS if a piece of brass pierced it.

And I'm just guessing that that could have potentially flattened my tire on the first go round. I don't actually know what punctured it.

I don't find many tires that get punctured let go of whatever pierced it. To go all the way in takes a lot of force on most tires and they usually hold on to whatever pierced them. If you've ever plugged a tire you know how hard it is to get a rasp or plug thru the tread. These were like tissue.

The closest thing in the size 225/65-17 is the 107 load range BFG TA KO2 at near $300/tire. Imma try the 106H XL Nittos and will update. The Contis are 102 load range BTW.
Besides the Nitto, you may want to check Falkin and Toyo - just a thought. Good Luck

I've been looking at all of them for the last 2 days. Toyos ran pretty well on my Tacoma so I respect them.

Do you know of any examples of either of those with 106+ load ratings that you'd care to share? TIA.

Bought quite a lot of tires in my time, going back to my first replacement set, Semperit M401’s (later 501’s) in 1974. Generally speaking, the softer the tire, the better the grip, and the shorter they last. Of course, the opposite is also true. (I suspect that I’m not spilling any beans here!)
That being said, I’ve settled on the old standby BFG’s TA line as the best combo of grip, lifetime range, and price. Don’t know too much about their rolling resistance, but when it comes time to replace my Lariat Michelins, I’ll consider both.

Dang Urq, those KO's will make your Mav ride like a truck. They are too stiff for a light truck. Load range "D" which is an 8 ply tire.

I didn't look for any certain specs besides standard tire size and a general category of all terrain based on my understanding of your roads. I may be off base from your thoughts but maybe this might help ya some. Again, Good Luck in your quest of finding the best fit for your needs and budget.

I put Falken's on the wife's Escape and couldn't be happier. They offer them in your size.

Hmm..... there may be something to this.... Wifey's '21 Honda Pilot w/conti's has had 3 punctures already. It's like the damn thing is a road metal magnet. One screw, one 8mm bolt, and one metal clip-type thing. Unbelievable. Fortunately, all were repairable. Regardless, the conti's are gone this fall. Not much better than the crap Bridgestones on her CR-V, that were worn out before 30K.
My dad and I both have a Maverick. In less than two years of combined ownership between the two of us, we have 4 flat tires. There is definitely something to the tread pattern on the conti's picking up debris.

Currently, I have Toyo Celsius tires. Decided to upgrade my tires sooner when I got stuck going down the driveway in heavy snow, while my wife, with her Escape and Toyo Celsius tires, was able to go right up the driveway at the same time.

I wish I had money coming out of my @$$ like you people do. Even then, I still wouldn't replace my oem tires after just a couple thousand miles. My Mav is still on its original contis at 76k miles. Have only rotated it three times. Recently went on a 1900 mile road trip with no problem.
Two of the four have plugs on them. Idk, maybe both plugs on the same tire. I don't keep track. Maybe I should. Ran over a screw on the interstate the first time. By the time I took the exit and pulled over, the tire was completely flat. The second time, I ran over a small Allen wrench maybe 1/8 inch. How that Allen wrench laid on the road with the short end sticking up to poke into the tire still boggles my mind.
Anyway, this is my longest lasting set of tires ever and I would not mind buying it again. I like getting my money's worth.
Here are the front two.

If it were my daily driver I would tolerate it but my wife ain't loving this thing being on the side of the road every 3 weeks with a flat.

First thing I'll do when I get my truck is take it directly to my favorite tire store and trade the Continentals in for some decent tires.

What is SB2?

I can understand that. It's not fun for sure. Had my share of flats...... alot. It didn't matter what brand tire it was. They weren't defective. It was because I ran over many a screw, nail, wires, allen wrench among other road debris. Not once did I blame the tire for any of those flats.
But hey, you gotta make the wife happy.

Definitely getting rid of these. Too soft for my use.

SB2 is base gravel 3/4 to 1" size. Has white quarry dust in it that allows it to pack down tightly. AKA chat gravel.
