If Mavericks are ever going to be collectible, it will likely be on the order of the Ford Courier. It's a niche collectible without broad market appeal and with corresponding values.

Agreed, I could see it gaining a following like the Honda Element. You'd be shocked to see what people pay for an Element with 200k on the odometer in the PNW

[This is a transcript from a Mecum Auto Auction segment from the not-too-distant future, the on-air voice speaking in hushed tones as 2 white gloved Mecum assistants push a 2022 Hybrid Lariat Lux onto the staging area...]

"Many in the industry believe this Maverick could be THE mythical Unicorn, as this Maverick was manufactured during The Pandemic of the '20's, is a mint example of a 1st Year model and is loaded with FoMoCo factory accessories such as Spray In Bed liner, hard roll up tonneau, full size spare, Moon roof, power rear window, 4-pin tow hitch and floor liners. It's virtually an untouched example of the OEM model, except for the Owner applied flat black vinyl lettering on the tailgate.

These accessories are proof the Original Owner stayed firm to receive the truck "as ordered" and not wilt in the face of 'constraints' and 'supply chain issues' or remove items with the hope (never confirmed to be valid) that removal equated to expedited production.

The glove box contains the Hermosillo, MX manufacturer Monroney Label, reflecting an MSRP purchase and the very rare hard copy of the Owners Manual.

The Reserve is off, the argument continues as to whether this is an iconic vehicle or an anomaly that existed as the Auto Industry transitioned to EV."

Next up is a 'Barn Find' from last century: a low miles AMC Pacer...

[written with tongue firmly planted in cheek...]
And then as it crosses the block there's a sudden "bang" from under the hood, and it catches fire...

It may become an icon in the same way that the Pinto, Chevette or Cimmaron are icon -- a notable thing of their time. Notable, but not something that will ever command any significant value. It's not like we're going to see the maverick develop a world-beating racing heritage or place in our culture like the Mustang.

And then there's the desirability factor. 30 years from now a buyer with stupid money to spend on collectables won't likely be at Barrett-Jackson hoping to see an Area 51 Maverick cross the block -- there are a lot of actually classic and desirable cars that will be popular. Ironically, I could see the current Bronco being one of them. But not the Maverick.
Well there is a Chevy Beretta with the Indy package at Volo cars right now priced at $42K. Never say never.

I remember when the Mustang was introduced as an affordable sports car for the masses and quickly became a icon that has lasted to this day. The Maverick is quickly following it as an icon for trucks of which the other big mfg's will be trying to get in on the game like they did on the Mustang. I'd be really careful with some of the custom work on the early (22-23) years as some day they might be collector items if in the original condition. Just adding my 2 cents to the Maverick picture.
Especially with the colors that will be discontinued...

I don't see the Maverick pickup as much as iconic as I see it as nostalgic. I haven't had this much fun since I drove a Ford Ranger and owned a Chevy S-10 in the late 1980's through the mid 1990's. I never knew I missed small trucks until I drove the Maverick! Plus, when I was a kid in the 1970's my parents owned the Maverick 2-door car. My Dad had a Maverick, I now have a Maverick. For me, the Maverick pickup is more about coming full circle with happy memories and making some new ones. After two decades of driving full-size pickups...my friends think I've lost my mind when they see me drive this truck.
Reading this takes me back 50 years ago when I was driving my Chevy LUV truck. Never hear that one mentioned when folks talk about the history of small trucks, but then it wasn't much to talk about.

You’ll Never see a ROI on this or any other car. Factor in the cost of buying, insuring, maintaining, garaging, etc. If you want to have a lot more than $25k 25 years from now, just put it into an S&P index fund.
Any Other Car? Hmmm, are you aware of what cars selling at Jackson Barrett go for???

As much as I may want to believe this, a truck is not a sportscar, and will never be iconic like a sportscar can be. Who can predict the future though? Mavericks could become collectible if Ford discontinues them too early with limited vehicles sold.
To be fair, the first gen mustang is seen as an icon, and they made a million of them in the first two years or so. The maverick, like the mustang, is a vehicle that took a unique approach, was seen as a game changer, and created an aspirational vehicle that was very affordable, and easy to personalize.

Five or ten years from now, when we have lots of small pickups, the maverick will be seen as the innovator that changed the pickup truck market. Plus it handles relatively well, looks good, is pretty reliable etc. So there are a lot of attributes about the mavericks that could make it an icon. It makes more sense for the maverick's to become a collectors item than something like a 90s ranger, Tacoma, s-10, as those trucks were nothing special imo. The maverick is a much better truck than any of those were in terms of being a good all around vehicle. So objectively and subjectively, there's a lot going for this vehicle.

It's already being heralded as one of the best vehicles of the 2020s this far in terms of the idea, and the execution. It's the only entry level model from any brand that has some desirability and character to it.

The Maverick will never be an automotive icon, any more than the last generation Ranger - of which I owned two. It is a cheap automotive appliance that will please people like us who are looking for a cheap trucklet.

The Tacoma is an icon. The F150 is an icon. The Maverick is not and probably never will be an icon. Come on folks - it is a stretched Escape SUV with the back chopped off.
Hmm, last time I Checked, Never was a pretty long period of time. Many things (expected, and unexpected) can happen over very long periods of time. But if you know something the rest of us don't know, well kudos to you.

I'd rather make use of and enjoy my truck that I paid for now than have to lock it up most of the time for 30+ years just as a hedge it becomes an "investment".
I don’t have anywhere near 35 years left in this old body, so, like you, I will enjoy mine now and let my progeny worry about the future Value.

My VIN # ends in 1.

Which means itā€˜s 1 of 1 because nobody else has the same numbers in their VIN sequence as I do ending in one.

This will further enhance the Collectable, iconic, sought after nature of my mighty Mav.

I expect my maverick to be worth 50,000,000 dollars in a few years

It will be due to inflation of course, but still…
Can I get some of what your smoking.
