Has anyone had success using a dongle on your Maverick to eliminate the need for plugging your phone in every time you use the truck?
I tried using a Motorola MA1 but could not get it to connect to my phone nor the pickup. while connecting to the phone, it asks for a password. no password is provided with the dongle. I then tried to connect directly by Bluetooth thru the information system on the truck. it does recognize the dongle but refuses to connect. it just goes around and around.
has anyone had success with another brand??

I don't have experience with this particular brand, but I would hit the reset button on the dongle and start over.

FYI: the dongle doesn't connect to your infotainment via BT/Wifi at all so no need to worry about that. All the wireless connections happen between your phone and the dongle, and your phone and truck's BT.

Good luck.

Connect the USB part of the dongle directly to the USB port. Not a cigarette lighter adapter

Let's just clarify a few things because your post is all over the place.
1. What phone do you have?
2. Have you first connected the phone to the truck by Bluetooth? The MA1 Dongle should have nothing to do with being able to connect it by Bluetooth. That would at least enable you to make & receive calls & receive texts through the infotainment system.

LOTS of people use the Motorola adapter just fine in LOTS of different vehicles. Check the manual online?

The dongle acts as a cord and you only need to connect to that. Bluetooth to the truck isnt necessary for android auto or apple car play in this situation

The dongle has to be plugged into a DATA ACTIVE USB port. Some are charge only ports!

According to my understanding the MA1 does not work with Apple Car Play. Not sure if you’re Apple or Android.

The one in my Maverick has worked so well that I just added one this morning to my 1993 Lightning, which has an Android Auto head unit to go with my Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra.
  • Plugged the MA1 into the USB extension cable from the head unit
  • Paired the phone and MA1 via Bluetooth (no password required, just agree to pair)
  • Select Android Auto on the head unit.
That was all I needed to do.

Samsung S22+ that is what is confusing, the instructions that come with it say to connect by bluetooth. when I try to connect to my phone it asks for a password

Thanks, I tried that, and it worked great. I wish they had given better instructions with the Motorola Dongle.

I received the Atoto AD3WAA-BK from Amazon ($60). Android.
It works as intended but I don't really see the need for it so I am returning it. I don't see the point of plugging in the wireless dongle instead of just plugging in the phone? If I was using Waze or Google maps on a trip I'd have to charge the phone anyway so I'd have 2 devices plugged in.
Someone please point out if I'm missing something :) thanks

7/25/23 follow up. I returned the Atoto dongle and bought the Motorola MA1 from Amazon ($89) It works better then the Atoto, connects in about 45 seconds when I start the Mav. I added a right angle type c to type a adapter to keep it up and out of the way for now, will see how that works. I still use the lower type a plug for my CD collection. I recommend the Motorola :)

For short trips when I don't have any need to charge. Nice to just hop in and go, phone in pocket.
