I initially thought it was a Silverado or something.

Big truck, they just keep growing. This is not a Maverick replacement by any means.

Looked ok, lots of creases in the bodywork. The whole look was kinda busy.
Squared fender wells too, just don’t like those on any vehicle.

Anyway, they’re out there now and I didn’t miss anything by not considering one.

I thought they were available now, am I wrong? It looked like a new owner was driving it, not like a test mule run or anything.

I think it was. TRD as well.

Sorry I forgot to take a picture, I just figured some of you guys had probably already seen one in person.

Well, I just saw another one, or the same one, same color anyway. Unfortunately I was in the inner turn lane and he was pulling out on the road further ahead here in Loveland. There was no way I could catch up to him and take a picture.

The one I saw yesterday was in Greeley.

Both were Solar Octane color.

Maybe they are testing them around here or something?

I am ready to take a photo next time!

You might have found yourself in the middle of a press drive. They do those a month or so before the first drive reviews all appear online at the embargo date. That would explain multiple sightings. They do press junkets here in Asheville, and you'll see 5 or 10 of some new vehicle going down the Blue Ridge Parkway. Colorado is another favorite place.

I was wondering about that.

Anyway, it’s a pretty different looking truck, not bad looking, but still too big to comfortably fit in my garage.

I also saw a Mitsubishi Raider this afternoon.

Pretty interesting car spotting today.

I have been fortunate to see several vehicles before they were released to the public. I worked for an air freight company in AK. They hauled the first new 5th gen camaros to the LA auto show prior to public release. Had to see them strapped down inside a 747 freighter but it was still cool.

I hope they fixed the seating configuration. I bought one in February and sold it back to the dealer when my Maverick came in. I couldn't wait to get rid of it. My back was killing me. I added seat jacks to the front of the seat that was supposed to help. Didn't help. I couldn't believe how uncomfortable it was.

Off the top of my head it's like 2" higher seating mostly by way of correspondingly increasing the roofline to jack up the seat that much.

I find it ironic people complain about the Tacoma seating but fondly love the old Rangers and 1st/2nd gen Explorers. We've still got a few of those old Fords in our company fleet and they're just as bad about having the seat planted right on the floor.

I haven't owned a truck since the mid 80's when I had an Isuzu pup. I don't know anything about the Rangers. I have a friend who has driven them for decades, but I've never been in one long enough to form an opinion on the seat configuration. My Tacoma didn't bother me for a few weeks, then I started having recurring back pain. When I started driving the Maverick, it felt much better within 2-3 days. I installed the seat jack to see if it helped, but my back started hurting again within a couple of days.

The thing about styling changes is that they are done 5-7 years before release by most OEMs. So that poor design group has to have prescience to get it right. This being Toyota, you can be sure the Tacoma design went through a gazillion focus groups consisting of current Tacoma drivers. And you can still get it wrong.

Also, designs have a funny way of looking bad the first time you see them, but growing on you over the years. I'm really glad I'm not a car designer, because it seems like a perilous career.

Styling hasn't been that far behind production for MANY years.... Legacy OEM's are within the 36 month window these days, for a full model change. (barring the covid years...)

I guess the color I saw is called “Terra”, not solar Octane..
It was better looking than the bright orange Solar color, more subdued. It almost had a copper tinge to it.
