36.5 MPG when an official EPA Highway MPG is 33 at 85 MPH

Take it back to the dealer for a full diagnostic.

Maybe he can tweak the engine control module to get your MPG more in line with the EPA rating.

There sure is a way. Just 3 years ago gas prices were under $1.50 a gallon. April 2020…..

I’m trying real hard not to get political about it here. I like this forum and don’t want to see it ruined by people arguing over political issues.
You are not being political, that was peak time at the beginning of Covid & nobody was going anywhere & the fuel was getting stale in the underground tanks & they were trying to give it away, I filled every tank of anything I had with no E fuel at that time, got me through summer & half of the next winter!

Picking the covid time period is probably a bad choice for a "gas prices used to be lower" argument.
April 2020, COVID economic effects had not started. Lock downs were just being discussed and implemented in some cases.

Right basic economics isn’t political. Not like there was legislation that caused those prices.

it was cheap worldwide.

First of all you are 10 miles over take of speed.... Secondary optimal high way speed is 58 mpg. @ 60 or over... electric mode kinda shuts down. Use slippery mode.
OK, I am a partial idiot...I did Not know that the electric mode shuts down over 60. Not a doubter but is that stated in the Manual or where? and Thanks.

My wife, lead foot Lynda drove my Hybrid Maverick across Arizona I 40 peaking at 85MPH
MPG readout was 36.5 MPG, I was a tad disappointed, even though the official EPA Highway MPG is 33
The Maverick has about 3000 miles on it, and has a solid folding bed cover, A/C was on, but it wasn't that hot outside. Drive mode was "Normal"

However, a few years ago while Lead Foot Lynda was using a my Prius as a daily driver she got about 33MPG
I’m impressed! I only get 36.8-37.5 driving 75-80 mph from FL to SC with foothills.

Driving up to Portland from Eugene...about 100 miles. Freeway speeds are at least 80 if not behind Semi trucks in the slow lane. I would be happy to get 35..looks like I might find out. Enjoy your Mav!

Climb hills on I-20 or I-10 in west Texas at 80mph and you will see average 27mpg on a hybrid. I saw a post that someone got 26mpg.

As the Ford MPG sticker for the hybrid city v highway indicates, the MPG advantage comes with city driving as it does with the Prius due to engine start/stop and battery power at low speeds. 40mpg at the speeds you indicated actually seems good. I believe the A/C compressor is powered by the engine and is not powered by an electric motor so that too would decrease mpg in either city or highway driving.

Try filling your tires to 45-50 psi to get better mileage the 36psi on the door frame is for comfort and is what EPA tests the vehicle on the dynamo, I like a hard tire ride and am currently exceeding 42+ mpg overall with mostly highway driving.

Nothing new here, this was why the US implimented 55mph restrictions in the 70's to optimize fuel economy during the oil crisis.
That being said, 36mpg is nothing to cry about.
the higher the speed the worse the fuel economy.
the epa rating is usually set at 55mph, so no doubt its above that 30 mph higher than that.
