Interstate driving is a challenge if your looking for decent MPG. As you know, the slow lane (trucks) can be used but..your going between 60 and 70 mph, perhaps. Here in the NW, as soon as you pull into the fast lane....at least 75-85+with a car on your tail.
Stay in the slow lane or pay the price.

Slippery or Eco much better on highway. Just drove 1300 miles on interstate at 73-74 cruise and did 42+
Damn wishing I had cruise control because my ass also has a lead foot and I drive 80+ everywhere if it’s highway….

My wife, lead foot Lynda drove my Hybrid Maverick across Arizona I 40 peaking at 85MPH
MPG readout was 36.5 MPG, I was a tad disappointed, even though the official EPA Highway MPG is 33
The Maverick has about 3000 miles on it, and has a solid folding bed cover, A/C was on, but it wasn't that hot outside. Drive mode was "Normal"

However, a few years ago while Lead Foot Lynda was using a my Prius as a daily driver she got about 33MPG
If you drive overly hard, what do you expect?

The real problem is that OP is letting Lead Foot Lynda drive the Maverick at all, considering her sketchy driving habits and the unrepairability of the Maverick.

Oh, the price of gas. I wonder if there was a way we could reduce the price of gas.
There sure is a way. Just 3 years ago gas prices were under $1.50 a gallon. April 2020…..

I’m trying real hard not to get political about it here. I like this forum and don’t want to see it ruined by people arguing over political issues.

Picking the covid time period is probably a bad choice for a "gas prices used to be lower" argument.

First of all you are 10 miles over take of speed.... Secondary optimal high way speed is 58 mpg. @ 60 or over... electric mode kinda shuts down. Use slippery mode.

So there I was, driving from Germany to Spain in my 1991 Taurus SHO with bike mounted on top.
Realized at the first fill-up in France that we were going to be seriously killed by the gas prices..

In Germany Soldiers could fill-up on base or buy "fuel coupons" which were good at German gas stations- both much cheaper (less than half?) than the $8/gallon that was common in Europe in the early 2000s.

So instead of driving ~80mph we were doing about 70mph and the gas mileage got quite a lot better... Even though it took longer.

And in hindsight we could have bought 3plane tickets and a 5day rental car cheaper than paying the gas we spent!
