Called up my salesperson who submitted my order. He's saying if I switch from hybrid to gas he thinks my order will get built soon, but he can't promise anything. My current priority code is 19. Will modifying the order to ecoboost drop it to 10? I've already waited more than 7 months. Should I switch now?
I will need this truck asap.
Hybrid is nice but gas mileage is not that important anymore. I figured, with 70% highway driving, ecoboost probably is only going to cost me $400 more in gas per year.
Plus, if I do switch, I'll be adding the AWD, hoping that's not a restraint. Is it?
AWD will help in winter.
I'm also seriously considering the 4K tow package. It's inexpensive, and being able to tow 4000lb is nice. There's hardly anything that's under 2000lb. My question is, I see there's some travel trailer with GVWR right around 4000lbs, a few even exceed it by 200lbs or so. If I do get this 4k tow package, is it ok to tow a ultra light trailer that's 4100 or 4200lbs? From the engine specs it sounds like this ecoboost truck have enough torque.

Ford is on track to not build at least 40% of hybrid orders. Conversely, EB orders should be close to being wrapped up or held up by allocations.

So, your dealer is correct on both counts: an EB is more likely to be built but he obviously can't promise anything.

Based on your comments I would go ahead and switch. I would suspect an EB is way more likely to get built sooner than an XL Hybrid.

You need to ask your dealer to change your order to a priority 10 and ask him if they have allocations.

NO - at least not just for making this change.

Priority is set by your dealer however they want to set it. You should ask them about this along with how many EB orders they have. If they happen to have a lot of EB and few Hybrids you might be better off keeping the hybrid but it's really difficult to tell.

A priority 10 is only better than an 11 at the same dealership. You won't be "ahead" of anyone at other dealerships just because your priority changes.

One more thing to keep in mind is that I think you'll lose price protection by swapping at this stage which will add $500 to MSRP if memory serves.

I realize the decision just gets more difficult as time passes. If you have time, FordVideoGuy has great video/live content to help understand how changes and priority works and how to speak with your dealer about it.

Ecoboost could be a good idea. Allocations are currently what is holding my Eco build, but I am hoping the 3rd shift they add this July will help get all Ecos built - regardless of allocations ( foolish hopes??? Maybe)

It sounds like the EB would fit your needs better. Ask your dealer about the price increase I believe if you change your trim or powertrain you’re price protected but if you change from fwd to awd you’re not. I changed mine from XL to XLT and my dealer said I’m price protected.

Waited for 14 months on a hybrid. Switched to EB first day it was allowed. Got scheduled 2 weeks later. I have been driving it for 2 months now. The EB is a blast to drive. Glad I switched. I will pay a few hundred more a year for the extra zip!

No. Unless that is an actual scaled weight. I wouldn't quibble over a couple hundred pounds if it was actually scaled. But manufacturers (especially those selling ultra lights) quote 'dry weight'. Which is absolutely empty. No gear, no food, no bedding, empty tanks, no spare tire, etc. Nobody travels that way. Most campers are going to have 1,000# of weight over & above the 'dry weight'.

So if you are an experienced camper and you know for a fact that your load (food, bedding, beer, gear, boots, fishing poles, books, computers, water in the tanks, etc, etc.) is 500# then your trailer weight cannot exceed 3,500#.

And the tow weight is only one of a number of calculations you need to make to be safe and legal. You also need tongue weight, axle weights, and you have to add in any gear or passengers in the truck. I think driver is included already but I'm not sure about that.

You also have to take into consideration the front wind load of trailer. The Ford manual gives a square foot number for that as well. Though I suspect most ultra lights would be OK on that one.

Travel trailers are not as fun as the BOAT you could tow with that EcoBoost 4K.

Travel trailers don't hardly float at all.:(

-secret is allocations and priority number. Ask them to move it to a 10 when you switch.

What do you really want? Hybrid or gas. If you can go gas, tell your dealer you'll swap if they change your priority code to 10. Otherwise pass. Also you have to avoid the other constraints , tow hitch, splash guards, trifold bed cover, load box bed cover.

If you don't care about fuel economy and you want to tow more than the Maverick can handle, why not get a different truck that will do what you need? You could be driving it today.
