The problem with just swapping the ACM is that the Maverick uses an ACM which does everything. If you just put an HD ACM in you wont have anything to drive the screen. If you want HD radio which Im thinking of upgrading my ACM to you will need to do the APIM addition as well
See:

Unfortunately, no.

My understanding is "Sync 2.5"/"Sync Lite"/"Connected Touch Radio" that is standard on Maverick does not use an ACM, which is why this mod requires you to add one. Since your system does not have an ACM, you can't just add one on. Your current system has no use for an ACM.

If you had a Lariat with Lariat Luxury Package (and thus Sync 3 already), you would only need the ACM that supports HD Radio. That's what the F-150 thread is talking about - making sure you get an ACM that supports HD Radio, as not all of them do.

However, you don't have that so you'll need to add the ACM in the process of swapping in a Sync 3 or Sync 4 APIM as well.

The system that's currently in your car was basically brought over from lower end cars overseas (e.g. Europe). It's not used on other US models that I'm aware of. HD Radio is largely a US-only system so you're not likely to find a drop-in replacement version for your car. Gotta go through the whole process below to get it if that's what you really want.

1) Add Sync 3 or Sync 4 APIM
2) Add ACM that supports HD Radio
3) All the associated wiring and configuration changes listed above
4) and potentially enabling HD Radio separately in FORScan.

What is the process if you have a Lariat Lux with Sync 3 already?

I tried the APIM swap into my lariat lux... Just to get Nav. Probably would have worked, but I got discouraged after tearing apart my console, losing tools into the ether, and in general just not wanting to render my truck inoperable. Others have succeeded (and tried to help me do the same).
Still have the programmed APIM, that I dropped $400 for, chilling in a box in a closet. Whenever I have a new "brilliant" idea I go look at that box then remove the idea from my brain.

I don't know if this is specifically sync 4 related, but I noticed this morning that I was getting navigation related stuff in the IPC from Android auto. You can see it next to the song title.

Can you tell me what cluster you used for your hybrid? Looks awesome.

Been working on adding a Sync 3 with NAV to XLT, just wondering if anyone who has done this had this issue, the Radio Controls do not power up, I only get the Ford logo on the Sync display as the APIM boots after I open and close a front door, then it goes off, I am thinking the issue is with the LIN Bus connection off PIN 44 of the APIM as possibly some APIM's don't support the LIN Bus master output, the current Sync3 APIM I am trying is from a '17 F150 that I grabbed out of My '14 Fusion, and I put a non-NAV unit in the Fusion from an '18-F150. The ACM I'm using is from a '21 Escape that had Sync, so I don't think there any issue there.

Without the Front radio control module the radio cannot be turned on, the alert chimes(door open) do get routed through the ACM via the APIM so it appears to be working. All the CAN bus connection seem to be Ok, I can communicate with ACM and APIM, and nothing is setting any codes with the rest of the truck modules.

I may try the slightly new non nav APIM I stuck in the Fusion to see if that make a difference, just wondering if anyone had similar experience and possibly solutions.

To follow up with a bit more information, I made an incorrect assumption that the pinouts if all the Sync 3 APIM were the same, when it comes to pin 39 to 47 they are model dependant, in the APIM I was trying to use all these pin are connected to ground, so no HS4 can bus or LIN bus. Looks like I will need to source another APIM.

I now have the Sync 3 system(non-nav) working in correctly Maverick, few thing I came across that the people at Cyanlabs helped me out with,
There are setting that need to be changed in the in the RCM (Restraint control module) and the TCU (Telemetry Control Unit) to work with the Sync3 APIM.

RCM change asbuilt data at 737-02-01 Cxxx-xxxx-xxxx (Change 4 to C)
TCU change asbuilt data at 754-01-01 Bxxx-xxxx-xxxx (Change E to B)

The RCM change clears U0452 DTC and allows the 911 assist to work, the TCU allows the Ford Pass to work correctly, you won't be able to reconnect if you do a master reset without this change.

Setting up the ACM, I found the base model audio requires the rear speaker (#3 and #4) to be set to tweeter only or the ACM will give DTC for Open and short circuits, and shut off the rear channels(Zackmd1's ACM asbuilt data at the beginning of this post is configured for the rear speakers set as tweeter only, just confirming it is required if you haven't change out your rear speakers). For mine I configured for no SAT radio set first byte to B instead of 3, set the 8th byte to 2 instead of 1 for an active antenna instead of passive the ACM 727-01-01 B82B-14F2-0019. Not 100% sure on the antenna setting, but that is how the Lariat with sync is setup, assuming it's the same antenna for both the B&O system and the base audio.

A few tech tips for building your harness, the shields are important and need to be connects to the APIM as it become the shield reference point for the Mic, Camera, alert and audio signals and these signals should be individually shield pairs. All CAN bus pairs should be twisted (approx. 2 twists per inch) and CANbus taps should not exceed 0.4m (18")

My Lariat Tremor comes in next month. I’m wanting to change out the Sync 3 and remove the cubbyhole and put in a 12” Sync 4. Anyone have any insight on this or know a company that can do it?

I'm embarking on this project too with a Sync 3. Did you just tap into the wiring of the ODBII or was there room on the module for another connector? If you did end of tapping the connection, did you use t-taps?

Thanks

I made a T-Harness connector from an old amplifier T-harness for adding and external amp to the stereo in my 14 Fusion that had the same 24pin connectors(plug and socket connectors) as the OBD gateway network module, so I rewired that harness to plug in between the existing harness and the gateway module. For the APIM CANBUS connections I looped the two pairs from the gateway module to the APIM to avoid having long spur taps on the CANBUS networks(HS and HS4), I extended 4 twisted pairs of #22AWG wire to the APIM.
Also with the CANBUS HS3 connection being extended from the original ACM harness connector, I looped that to the APIM and back to the new ACM connector to the ACM to avoid having the tap connection on the CANBUS.

Thank you that makes things a lot easier to assemble and cleaner. Appreciate all of your tips too
