It was in the vehicle when it came off the car carrier before the dealer processed it.

That doesn't mean it wasn't erroneously included... :)
Hmm...

Here's how this feature is described in the 2020 Ford Fusion owner's manual. Doesn't seem like there's any mention of overriding the interlock in a 2020+ Escape or 2022+ Maverick owner's manual. Still curious if anyone else has received this tool in their Maverick. Believe the manual release tether was supposed to be an alternative to this.

Brake-Shift Interlock Override
Ford Maverick Weird small metal "key" in sealed envelope 1678407098704
WARNING: When doing this procedure, you need to take the transmission out of park (P) which means your vehicle can roll freely. To avoid unwanted vehicle movement, always fully apply the parking brake prior to doing this procedure. Use wheels chocks if appropriate.

WARNING: If the parking brake is fully released, but the brake warning lamp remains illuminated, the brakes may not be working properly. Have your vehicle checked as soon as possible.

WARNING: Do not drive your vehicle until you verify that the stoplamps are working.

Note: See your authorized dealer as soon as possible if this procedure is used.
Note: For some markets this feature is disabled.
Note: This feature only functions if your 12-volt battery has power. If vehicle battery voltage is not sufficient, an external 12-volt power source (for example, jumper cables, battery charger or jump pack) may be required to function the interlock override switch.
Use the brake-shift interlock override to move your transmission from the park position in the event of an electrical malfunction. If your vehicle has a dead battery, you need an external power source.
  1. Apply the parking brake and turn your ignition off before performing this procedure.

  1. Locate your brake-shift interlock access slot. The slot is located in your center console storage bin. The access slot does not have a label.
Note: Make sure that you correctly identify the access hole as not to damage the media hub.
  1. Using a tool, press and hold the brake shift interlock switch. The indication in the rotary dial flashes when your vehicle is in override mode.
  1. With the override switch still held, rotate the selector to neutral (N) to shift from park (P).
  1. Release the override button.
  1. Your vehicle remains in Stay in Neutral mode for wrecker towing purposes or can be shifted to the desired gear and driven (if possible).
  1. Release the parking brake.

Not in the center console under the armrest.

I believe it’s under the front console rubber liner that is under the dash board, in front of the gearshift knob. On the right side. There’s a small rectangular compartment with a lid under there.

And yes, we got one of these in the glove box of our XLT EB.
I posted a picture of that area on the first page. No hole that I can see, and no cloth rip chord like others have mentioned for the hybrid. It is puzzling, for sure! :)

Weird, my son has an XLT Lux EB AWD. He did not get that with his truck......Maybe it is a Lariat, or 4K thing?

Not sure but I'm thinking it only comes with the push button start, ecoboost engines, probably to take the truck out of park and into neutral.

Too bad that key is not flattened at the end, you could open a can of sardines with it.
Very Funny, I once did a major renovation on my home. When I was painting the trim around the doors I found these " sardine can keys". I mentioned to the contractor that you guys must eat alot of sardines! He then informed me that they were the keys for the bedroom doors. Felt like an idiot.

I have a Lariat Ecoboost 4K FX$ push button start. I did not get that churchkey type of tool, and a look around the gear shift area, center console, under the phone stash area, nothing under the piece you can pop out down there either. There is nowhere a probe like that will go. Maybe you have to get under the vehicle to reach the spot ;) Quite the mystery.......

Yep, pretty much like it says on the envelope. I think you bust open the panel below the 12v outlet in the dash (the flat area where you could lay down your cell phone) and there is a hole to stick that key to lock it into Neutral.

I think on the Hybrid, they claim there is a little cloth rip-cord you pull on to do the same thing. But on the Ecoboost it takes a little metal paper clip ;)

This is all from memory, so some of what I said might be slightly off.
Don't pull the side curtain airbag test rip cord!

"Emergency Towing Procedure". Per the text on the envelope.
