We did have a snow apocalypse down here in Tucson. Almost 2 inches and it lasted until noon 🥶
We got some on the Superstitions. It lasted 2 entire days.

Please don't use a scraper on the $1k headlights, lol.
Y'all baby your vehicles too much.

I literally had to scrape off the lights on my XLT in the first week. You just do it carefully.

I don't have a garage, so I've had to do this with every vehicle I've had for decades. Plastic is easy to damage, so you just use a steady hand. Also, non LED lights freeze over the exact way, so it really makes no difference.

Gee, I will just continue using a milk jug full of cold tap water to melt off the ice or my iced tea pitcher.

No, I do not baby my vehicles at all. I just don't purposely try to destroy expensive components when it is not remotely necessary. My truck sits outside all winter in Maine. I have never needed to scrape the headlights.

Design flaw???? I guess when it sinks when try to drive across water that’s a design flaw as well. Manufacturers can’t build every conceivable scenario into a vehicle, especially when it starts at around $20k.
Nice false equivalency. Thanks for the reply. Quite a community we have here. Is there an admin that can just lock this disaster?

No. I don’t know why it won’t open now. I just attached it again. This was after pulling over twice on my way home from work to clean the front end off. Again, maybe not a design flaw, more of an unpleasant side effect of the design. Maybe other vehicles also have this happen, I’ve never had it in any of my GM, Ford, Chryslers, Mazda, VW, Nissan, and whatever else I’ve had over the years.

^^. How about virtually the entire upper and lower grills being almost completely iced over? Another design flaw?

I'm not sure if actual answers to the original question are allowed in this forum?
I googled: led headlights ice build up

This article seems to be a good summary: https://mycarvoice.com/news/how-do-you-stop-ice-buildup-on-led-headlights/

Easy Tricks For Keeping The Ice Off LED Headlights

While there is no magic solution for keeping ice off of LED headlights permanently, there are a few tricks that have been proven to work. In fact, many truckers commonly use these exact same methods before heading out into cold winter weather. If it works for them, it will certainly work for you as well.
  • Spray De-Icer on the headlights. This will keep ice and snow from sticking to the LED headlights for at least a day. Keep a rag and spray bottle filled with de-icer in the car just in case you need to apply another coat before hitting the road.
  • Wax your headlights before a snow storm. Any paste wax will do, and should help keep off any ice and snow build up for a few hours.
  • Spray a coating of DuPont Dry-Film Lubricant onto the headlight lenses. While this product is not intended to keep snow or ice off of headlights, many vehicle owners have used it with great results.
  • Spray a thin coating of PAM cooking spray onto a rag and wipe the headlight lenses with it. This cooking spray will create a thin oily film on top the lenses, keeping snow and ice from sticking.

People here are so touchy over word choice. "Design flaw" may not be the right wording but OP is just posting an issue he had. I had a similar experience with LED headlights on my Jetta during a winter storm. First time I've ever had headlights ice over so badly that light output was drastically reduced. Have never encountered icing that extreme with halogen units, and I've been through worse storms. Probably something people in colder climates are going to have to deal with on modern vehicles until automakers/aftermarket respond with a solution. Might try the spray concoction someone mentioned, seems like a helpful idea.

That's what the fuss is about? You use the brush end of the scraper to get rid of any loose snow, and then use the scraper to clear the headlights. Takes five minutes. You also want to clear as much of the grill as possible to allow for good air intake.

This is just winter?

Have y'all not been clearing the snow and ice off your headlights on your other vehicles?

No they are not. Words have meaning. Insinuating that Ford should have somehow anticipated this as a problem and addressed it is wrong. This is an issue that has affected all vehicles since headlights were invented. There are already many existing strategies to deal with it. I've had my windshield continuously ice over while driving and used up a whole gallon of washer trying to keep it clear. Heat was on full blast, but I don't think I can hold Ford responsible for the bad weather and my choosing to drive in it.
