Looking at the difference between the Tremor vs FX4 tow package .
1.Tremor had 3.81 ratio
FX4 has 3.81 ration
2. Tremor has heavy duty trans cooler
FX4 tow has heavy duty trans cooler
3. Tremor has a different Radiator & fan then the EV or the FX4 tow , this is the only difference I see.
So with a brake controller installed you should be able to tow 4000 k.

one minor detail, springs

In addition to what Fossil said. I suspect that the larger radiator also plays a big part in the added towing capability of non tremor 4k tow models.

Which is only relevant if the cooling capacity of the rad is not enough.

But certainly it has softer suspension. That is typical for off road packages and from what people say, it rides nicer.
But airbags, a brake controller, and a round trailer plug (Tremor only comes with flat 4) it should easily do the same pull unless the rad is just marginal for size.

Tremor and FX4 both come standard with only 2k tow. The difference is that you can add 4k tow to FX4 but not the Tremor.

So in other words it's relevant. Tow 4k with your tremor, let's see what happens, I'm sure you don't mind being the guinea pig. What do Ford engineers know, right?

While the springs are soft and the radiator is smaller I wouldnt discount the the decreased cooling effect of the lack of an air dam. I would say the springs are 50% of the equation and can easily be supplemented with air bags. The smaller radiator is maybe 30% and the wasted cool air being shoved under the truck instead of through the radiator is the other 20%.

To me (and of course the legal limit blah blah is out the door) adding air springs for the rear will make me feel plenty comfortable pulling 4000 lbs around Maui. Im not talking about day long pulls into the Rockies or even the Appalachians. For general around the town purposes, I dont see any problems pulling 4k around. I mean I have seen people tow as much with a 2000s 2 door honda civic.

Also I have many times towed over 6-7000lbs without trailer brakes. Again legalities aside. But short pulls here or there, trip to the lake an hour away. Not a big deal. If you wanna go out of state maybe stay in your legal limits.

Not necessarily relevant. The odds that it will overheat regardless the size of the rad is very low. I have pulled all sorts of things over the technical spec and never had something overheat. You are much more likely to feel uncomfortable with the suspension well before you hit limits of the power train. Thus, airbags.

Correct, it will not bother me in the slightest to pull 4K.

Agree. And trailer brakes sure are nice, but so many things people pull are not dependent on the truck, like surge on a boat. I will put a round plug on so if the trailer has electric brakes, they work (even our aluminum 16’ has them despite only weighing less than 1000# empty) and because I like the connection better than flat 4. Flat 4 goes bad on the trailer a lot more.

What type of towing are we talking about. A fully loaded trailer 4000 lbs from Baltimore to LA thought the mountains? Or flat town for a hundred miles to help a friend move.

The upgraded radiator capacity on the 4k tow kinda baffles me. It is indeed a higher cap, but only half a quart more than stock. That must be a hell of a cooling fan they have on that bad boy.

As @fossil pointed out - it has quite a bit to do with the springs as much as the radiator.

The suspension has the lowest payload of all of the trims - which is telling.

A good 3rd party brake controller and a properly weighted trailer - you could exceed 2k lb tow limit for short distance and relatively flat tows, but I wouldn't try to maximize the Tremor's off road capabilities while towing above 2k

If there is room for an auxiliary cooling fan I will install one. Did not get my Tremor yet so I am not sure. And in addition I will use rear air bags just in case I have increased tongue weight from the item that I'm towing. Not worried too much because I do not plan on towing boats or other large loads. For individuals who are interested here is the product # for the rear air suspension.

Calculating cooling capacity is much more complicated than just the volume of coolant contained in the radiator. The coolant flow rate, surface area of cooling fins, and the amount of air passing through the radiator are other variables. I think that Ford is very conservative with their numbers though.

That makes sense. Kinda figured in the back of my mind that there was probably more to it than fluid capacity. I'll certainly take the extra.
