Wow, really took our first modest trip in the Maverick, we put a couple of plastic tote bins in the back and put a couple of small suit cases in one. Just went to the garage to take the empty totes out and was shocked at the scratches that went through to the gray primer. It seems like they barely put one coat of blue paint on the bed. I knew the bed would scratch, but this seems ridiculous that it would go through to the primer so easily. Does this seem right?

I'd not been thinking about getting a SIBL, but rather have ordered a bed rug, since I removed it from my order, but now looks like the SIBL is required.

I assume there are an awful lot of very scratched up beds out there if this happened to me in this way.

Obviously with trucks these days, you either need a SIBL, DIBL, or Bed rug in order to get it covered up. I know more people like the SIBL, but I got a Ford DIBL from my dealer for $250 and it works great. Sorry for the scratches my friend and know you will get something done. At least they are where they can be covered up.

The paint is thin, that's for sure - but this is not a Maverick specific issue - there are lots of manufacturers that are applying paint extremely thin.

It isn't likely that the plastic tote or the suitcase were the cause but the dust or dirt that was on the bed or got on the bed during the trip that the weight of the totes and suitcase pushed on and scratched the paint.

Work truck white hides it a little better for the work trucks but this is about par for the course for any non-lined truck bed.

In my opinion, SIBL should be standard in all trim levels. Maverick is a truck for hauling. The thin paint will not last long in a bed!

Brings back memories, it was 1978, was in a hurry, just got married, moved a bedroom suite from wife's parents to our 1st home, brand new Silverado, virgin bed of truck scratched to hell and back. That's what trucks are for! Granted I understand, mine's got the SIBL and I put a BedRug on top of that

Seems like what should be expected. It's why most people who are worried about surface scratches on their bed out a liner in. Just dropped mine off at Toff Liner this morning, it's gonna be $400 and done while I'm at work.

Eh, give it a year and you won’t care as much.

I am going to do a SIBL though now that it’s been scratched so much.

The paint on these vehicles is trash, but I would get a bed liner anyway.
