I took delivery of my 2023 Ford Maverick Hybrid XLT in January 2023. I have driven the car about 1000 miles so far.

Since I got the Maverick a month ago, I have been experiencing a high frequency sound when the gas engine is on and driving at speeds of around 37-43mph. I do not hear the sound when it is on battery only at those speeds. The high frequency noise sounds like those sounds when you get a hearing test at the doctor. It is unpleasant.

Has anyone else experienced this issue? Anyone know of a fix or TSB?

Fix? The cabin is so quiet, you hear all the relays switching and electrical noises. That’s a feature, not a problem to fix.

Yeah, it’s normal. I believe I read a thread about it being the gas engine in ā€œgenerator modeā€, where it’s not delivering torque to the wheels, rather just charging the batteries. It’s kinda like an electric ringing from the generator spinning.

Hello! Send us a private message with your VIN and the name and location of your local Ford dealer. I’d be happy to see what I can do to assist with this noise concern. Thanks!

I also believe you're hearing the generator "whine" while it's recharging the HV battery. In my Lariat, I barely notice it unless the windows are down, then it is more audible... Personally, I don't find it all that objectionable - even less so when I'm trying to optimize my mileage...

There are some other threads here about how to add some insulation material between the cabin and firewall that seems to come standard only in the Lariat, and people have commented that they hear a lot less "engine noise" after installing those components.

@st3v I have a '23 xl hybrid and I also noticed the high frequency noise only with the engine running, but for me it's between 20 and 30 mph. The sound is not there on battery only, and it's only in the 20-30mph speed range. It's only noticeable when the radio is off and there isn't much road noise.

I’ve noticed that same thing. It’s a like a series of really faint beeps when in ice mode. My moms Toyota Hybrid doesn’t act like this maverick at all. The shudders/sounds. It’s crazy. Did you find out exactly what it is?

my 22 hybrid does it as well. was mentioned last year. its not a whine. high pitched ring/beep noise. 1 year and 8k miles later still there and no issues. just one if the maverick's "features" :(

OP, did you ever take yours in to get checked? Or have you just kept driving it even with the sound?

I did not have a chance to get it looked at. My 2023 Maverick was totaled.

However, I have a 2024 Maverick now and it doesn’t have the sounds as loud. I hardly notice it. Also the engine in my 2024 Maverick seems tuned better as I get better mileage. Maybe I used to have a dud?

Anyone have any additional info on this? My hybrid is awful around 35mph. Starts as low as 20mph sometimes but almost always under light acceleration at 35-40mph and it’s driving me crazy

I have a ā€˜24 hybrid xlt with 600~ miles on the vehicle

Bump

Just hit over 1k miles on the odo, problem unchanged.

My issue is most prominent between 20-40mph under light acceleration. I would estimate around 5% pedal pressure with slight modulation I can hear a distinct ā€œEEeEeeEā€ sound. It sounds very similar to a test tone when doing a hearing test at the doctors office. Above 40mph the sound is pretty much inaudible either because of road noise or because I’m depressing the accelerator more than 5-10%. However city/neighborhood driving is super frustrating hearing constant beeps and prolonged beeeeeeeeeeeeeee sounds.

haven’t had a chance to schedule service yet but will do so when I can get some free time. I need this vehicle for my work commute

@Ford Motor Company any insights or information regarding this?
