I have not received my Lariat with the off-road package yet but is coming this month. I was wondering if it needs running boards or is it not necessary? If some have been put on, what brand seems to be the best.

I bought the maverick as I have reached advanced middle age (78). I got tired of "climbing" up into my RAM 2500. Entry into the Maverick does NOT require running boards. IMHO they are only for appearance if you like that sort of thing. If you are asking which brand is best, it sounds like you have already decided you "need" them!!!

I also find comical the need for the tailgate assist addition. It takes both hands to lower and raise my Ram tailgate. One finger to raise or lower my Maverick tailgate. If you have extra money that you have no use for, this could be the answer!! :)

Looks like we are getting to the point where we need an "Advanced Middle Age" forum. There are sure a bunch of us - 76 here. Like you, I had a RAM and almost needed a step ladder, but even for someone short like me, the Mav is a breeze.

Yeah what the advanced middle aged guys said: the truck is low, they’re not needed.

However, if you want the look of running boards, go for it.

entirely random and beyond the point of this post but I recently had a pretty wild cancer scare at 29 (false alarm im fine) and it really has helped recently see older guys on here still enjoying their interests.

not looking for sympathy at all, but you lot are a pleasant reminder 29 ain’t the end lol!

Glad you are OK, and something like that does make you look at life and the future. I lost my daughter when she was 29, so it is always scary when people your age face a crisis. I just had a heart attach and 5 bypasses done 6 months ago and still going strong. My wife and I own a business and put in 45-50 hours per week, but thankfully not in the physical labor side of it. Enjoy your life and may God grant you good health.

Nothing "needs" running boards. This is like many things. It is mostly an aesthetic, and some like or love them and some don't. this truck sits very low, even if lifted. So to me they are not only pointless but ugly. But I have seen others indicate that they would love them on their own trucks.

@JBryant sorry to hear about your recent heart attack and even more so to hear about the loss of your daughter at 29.
You seem like a really nice person and are a breath of fresh air here.
Please take care of yourself!

Had f150 with running boards . didn't personally use them ( both of us long inseam ) . will lose ground clearance and add weight . find maverick is excellent height and easy in and out .

Thank you sir. I have had the joy of meeting so many good people here. I simply try to live my life as I think God would have me live it, treat my fellow man with respect and dignity, and realize we are all here on this earth for such a short time, we need to live unselfishly and be an encouragement to those with whom we come in contact, whether in person or electronically. Have a great day my friend and I am sure we will cross paths on here again.

When I saw this post I expected the OP to be one of The Seven Little Johnston's!

My F150 running boards were used everytime I hopped into my truck, and I'm 6'4"!
Liked the look and my wife being 5', she needed them! :)
