This is a great short article comparing the Honda Civic with a Mav XLT

My only comment would be that the Civic Seems to be outfitted more like a Lariat than an XLT, so I think the Mav might be even better than the article says. Best quote: "...the Maverick can still function as a car a lot more effectively than the Civic can function as a truck." Enjoy.

Fun article. My comment be the dramatic difference in turning circle (4 feet) for folks living in the city. The Civic's turning radius is 18 to 19 feet depending on spec. So call it 36 feet to do a U-turn. That same turn in my Maverick is 40 feet.

I notice it constantly on the narrow city streets here. Add the foot and a half of extra length in the Maverick, and I'd join C&D in saying "buy the Civic and borrow your friend's truck" - if you live in the city. If you live in the country, I'd say "buy the Maverick but use a taxi when you visit the city".

Interesting premise for an article. I guess the fact they cost the same was the only real way they are related to each other. Otherwise, the genesis of this article remind me of the Family Guy manatees from South Park.

The near north end of Tacoma, Washington isn't San Francisco or Manhatten Island I'll admit, but I don't feel the Mav is oversized. Residential streets with cars parked on both sides can be stressful but I don't feel the need for a smaller car. Roundabouts aren't a problem.

We had a 2017 Civic that my son took off to college and now we have the Mav. They park in the same a lot in the garage. We have a wheel chalk mat. We have to pull over the front of it for it to fit so there’s the distance in length. Gotta say I like the Mav better?

I'd like to see a comparable against an AWD with the independent rear suspension. The 2WD's have the torsion rear and don't handle that great in comparison. Or so it is said.

I had a Civic as a rental for a weekend and I now own a Maverick. If there was no Maverick I'd have bought a Civic. It is a very nice car. So this comparison is not completely out of left field.

If the Civic had come with an automatic instead of a CVT it would have been much better car. When my choice is between a Civic with CVT and a hybrid Maverick I'll take the Maverick. In fact I was hoping that the Acura Integra version of the car was going to come with a traditional automatic- nope, more CVT.

I did like that Honda was offering the base Civic with a natural aspirated engine. For long term reliability that should prove superior to the optional turbo motor.

I'm willing to bet that the Civic does handle and drive better than at least the hybrid Maverick (I haven't driven an Ecoboost) but I'm at the point in my life where comfort trumps handling plus I live in California were there is nothing but traffic so spirited driving is a rarity.

Civic is a lot more compact than the Maverick. In fact the Maverick is the longest vehicle I own. Still getting used to that.

Overall either the Maverick or the Civic can be the right car for someone. There is no perfect car for everyone.

Now, Honda needs to use the CIVIC/CRV platform to make their own Truck. Toyota can use their RAV4/Prius...

I looked up the length of a 10th gen Honda Accord (2018 to current) vs. a Maverick, and the Maverick is 7.5 inches longer than an already pretty long Accord.

Alex on Autos has an excellent video explaining why the Maverick and other small trucks are the size they are. TLDR is CAFE rules force them to be long.

Yep, I was already well aware of that, having researched it some time ago. Hopefully the video will educate more people.

That doesn't change the fact that the Maverick is 7.5 inches longer than a 10th gen Honda Accord.

We had a 9th gen Accord for my wife that she loved. Also recently had a 6th gen 1997 Accord here for about a year during the pandemic that eventually went to my brother. That 6th gen is 14 inches shorter than the Maverick and narrower. But man, that 6th gen Accord is fantastic on rough pavement- like riding on a cloud.

Also have a beloved first gen Honda CR-V in my driveway. It is just under two feet shorter than the Maverick and nearly 5 inches less in width.

I have a spreadsheet I was using to look at potential vehicle purchases and it included dimensions because I don’t need something huge. All of these are current models unless noted.

The Maverick is:

2.7 inches longer than a Honda Pilot or Kia Telluride
4.7 inches longer than a Toyota Highlander
5.4 inches longer than a BMW X5
20.7 inches longer than a Civic hatchback

It is, however, narrower than all of these except the Civic. Though it is long it doesn’t feel “big” to me on the road which probably has more to do with the width than the length.

Being in Southern California I still see a ton of the old Toyota pickups on the road. Those things are tiny compared to the Maverick.

Generally, a longer wheelbase makes for a better, safer towing vehicle.
I am truly impressed with the economy numbers of the civic and the fact that it can compare to a hybrid in any way on it.
