I'm on vacation in Florida and ended up with a 2021 Bronco Sport Big Bend as my rental. It's been interesting comparing it to my 2022 Maverick XLT EB with Lux.
So far, we've put probably close to 700 miles on the Bronco, doing a lot of driving between Kissimmee and various locations such as Ormond Beach, Ocoee, and Mt. Dora during the first 4 days. On Sunday, we left Orlando for Boca Raton. Monday was Key Largo, Tuesday was Key West, and today was back to Miami, where we'll be for a few days. So, lots of driving.
I was surprised to discover that the Bronco doesn't have Android Auto (or at least I haven't been able to find it). The ride is not as smooth or quiet as the Maverick but I pretty much expected that. The interior layout is completely familiar, which is nice. One key difference is the push button start. I keep starting to pull the key out of my pocket before realizing I don't need to.
The seats are pretty comfortable and it's easy to find a good driving position for long distance trips.
There isn't as much rear seat room as the Maverick so some of my passengers at times had knees in the back of the front seat.
Overall, it seems cheaper than the Maverick. The doors don't close with the same solid thunk and the rear hatch is similar. They sound tinny.
The Bronco doesn't seem to have the same power as the Maverick but I think this one has a 1.5L EB vs. the 2.0 in my Maverick. It doesn't do any better on fuel mileage though, with the round trip to Key West and back averaging 33.5. The Auto Start/Stop is rougher on restart than the Maverick. It really kind of shakes the whole vehicle.
All in all, the Maverick seems like a more refined vehicle, more car-like for the owner who doesn't need the ground clearance of the Bronco, and with better rear seat comfort and cargo capacity. The Bronco is certainly a lot more fun than the Toyota Camry I could have been driving these two weeks, but I'll be glad to get back in my Maverick when we get home. In the meantime, I've got miles more to go since we'll be leaving Miami on Sunday and heading back to Orlando via Sarasota and Tampa.
