My older brother bought a new '71 Maverick Grabber that had the 302 in it. It was blue, and I'm wondering how close to the Velocity Blue my truck has on it (when I get it?????). It was a nice looking vehicle.
My dad offered $3000 to a Ford dealer for a '75 Maverick sedan sitting on the lot. Went to take it for a test drive and the battery was dead. That ended that deal.

Any classic maverick owners here besides me??
Many Maverick car club forums hate the truck name and are pissed about the name.
I find them agnst ridden gearheads . I like the truck, name or not, I have mine due in tis week and can't wait to drive my 73 maverick to pick up my 22 maverick.
It's not a Maverick. It's a Ranchero!

ford sold that Maverick in europe and china for a few years in 01-05 i believe . funny since it wasnt available here in the u.s., the car guys were silent. The Brazilian Maverick is slightly different than the us version. Very popular car down south of the border
It was already available in the US in 2000 as a Ford Escape.

I would think they'd be happy to see the name recognition arise from the ashes of history.

I had a "Grabber Blue" 72 Maverick with the standard (smaller) engine, vinyl bench seats, roll-up windows, and just an AM radio. It did have an automatic transmission, but that was basically the only "frill" on the car, and was pretty much the whole point of getting that car. I traded in a 72 MG-B (which I dearly loved) for that car, because the girl I was dating at the time could not drive a stick and as a result hated the MG. It wasn't too much longer before she ditched me to go back to her old boyfriend, so I should have kept the MG. Live and learn...

Anyway, fast forward two years, and I was in the Army (Fort Bliss, TX - in El Paso). I was parked at our barracks, with the car facing East. One of the annual El Paso sandstorms came blasting through. When it was over, I went out to the Maverick. As I walked up, something just seemed "off" a bit. As I got closer, I realized what it was. The entire back end of the car had been sand-blasted down to bare metal - like it had been stripped on purpose. Also, the two side-view mirrors (which apparently were made of some sort of plastic instead of glass) were now opaque - like looking at a piece of sand paper.

A buddy of mine repainted it at the base auto shop for the cost of the paint. (And it looked pretty much like one of those $59 "Earl Scheib" paint jobs, but the price was right!) I found replacement glass for the mirrors at a junk yard. Drove it for another year or so before I sold it to buy a motorcycle.

Still have fond memories of the car. It was solid, reliable transportation, and never let me down.

I did not know any were left. That is really cool that you have one, really a rare car.

My father bought a used, red, low mileage, '71 for my sister to drive. A basic "6" with automatic. I thought it drove really nice at the time, really light effort even without power steering. But compared to my Pontiac, it really was a light duty drivers car providing little or no driver feed back. Not really a performer from the factory even in the Grabber edition. The 302 V8 though, did make it quite snappy, but not a real performance machine. That was left to the aftermarket.

I never owned one of the old Mavericks but I helped build many thousands of them when I worked at the Ford kansas City assembly plant.
I guess you knew the quality of the build, and bought a GM car!

This is pretty much every picture I have of the car that made me MaverickMan74. All my other pictures and videos of the build were lost digitally. I even had a pic of a 150ft burnout I made. Such a sweet car. Definitely not a crappy 70s car. They had style, good suspension, and sufficient technology for their era. Hell the 302 2bbl it had when I got it got me 18mpg on one tank. They made alot of them and were very popular in sales for their day.

I bought it from a guy up in Tipp City, so comically it might make sense that he did those taillights just a lil crooked lol. I dont have any knowledge of it being from WV, though I did take it there to get DeCarlos Pizza once. They cook the bread and sauce and add cold toppings. Its weird, but in a good way. I had the car from the summer of 2009 to the summer of 2015. Soooo much damn fun! I ran it hard too. Never feared bad weather, wrung it out in top gear often, got it in the air plenty of times. Just had a ball with it.

Well he was "tipsy" when he redid my car, called me and told me hey I am customizing your ride. Dunno maybe two people in this world got tipsy and decided to customize. Regardless nice ride, I have been seeing even before Ford preannounced the Maverick several at car shows. I guess it is coming to their time.
