Wow! That's $3K more than I paid for my brand-new Maverick in 1970! Wish I had kept that little beauty. I found a photo online that looks exactly like the one I bought new...

Tell me that shape was not influenced by the late 60s Ferrari Lussos. You may think that's a stretch, but not much of one.

You are right, I agree, your eyes are old, lol. Great pic. The Lusso is one of my favorites of all time. I can see that the lines, even the bend toward the front headlights are there, as is the rear. The Ford, of course, ain't no Lusso, but "inspired by" is clearly not a stretch. We know Ford watched everything the old man (Enzo) was doing in those days on the track. It wouldn't be a stretch to say that the original Mav was an attempt at an "everyman" Lusso-vibe. There was nothing else like the Mav, especially in this in coupe' form when it came... "out of the air".

Original base back when: $1995
New base at intro: $19995
I think
At the same time the 1970 Maverick came out, the new Pinto was
also introduced.
Its base was: $1919
Also available at the time was the Piper Colt: $6900-odd(memory fades)
I suspect the Piper Colt would need some additional avionics to fly legally, back then, and maybe more now.
We had a show at PU and I wandered all over it back then.

I had $3000. in my pocket to buy a new car in 1973 after graduating high school. Went to local Ford dealer to buy a Maverick Grabber with 302, they had a red one on the lot, was told by salesman "not to bother him" so I went down to street to the AMC dealer and got a Gremlin, it was red as well, (red is my favorite color) with a 304. After completing the deal stopped by the Ford dealer to show the salesman, he made a BIG error by not talking to me. Traded in my 1969 Ford Custom and still had some money in my pocket. Ran that Gremlin for about 10 years traded it for a Chevy pickup.

I'd go look at this old Maverick if it were closer than Beaver, Oklahoma
$5 grand and it had a listed caveat of ... "has small damage on rear right fender from frat tire".
Is "frat tire" damage as bad as the Lincoln Conti got from Delta Tau Chi in Animal House...
