Can I add one to tailgate?. Mine door one is hardwired came with truck

Edit I have a hard tonneau cover so no can’t reach over bed
Yes, it's stick on, either add it right on the tailgate or hide it behind the fuel door. Mind you, it will unlock all the doors instead of just the tailgate and it has to be programmed by a dealer, FORSCAN won't cut it.

That will cost a 1,000.00 more, plus taxes.
Nah, you can buy those wireless 315mhz keypads for 80 something bucks and maybe 2/10ths of an hour for a Ford tech to program it. It's nothing more than a secure keyfob in the shape of a keypad.

So the keypad on my XLT works a little different than what everyone else in this thread is saying.

On my XLT the keypad only unlocks the drivers side door and that's it. No other doors and not the tailgate. Also It does not lock the doors or tailgate.

The keypad on my XLT unlocks the drivers side door only. It does not do any other function. Are you guys saying it should do more because I'm not sure it does.

Intelligence access like front door handles would be awesome on tailgate
Does Lariat not have IA on the tailgate? Ford does include it on trunks and tailgates/liftgates/hatches (whatever your preferred term).

The keypads can lock the vehicle too. So you literally just walk up to the tailgate, get your stuff out, and lock it back from there. I could see why that's useful, especially when you got your hands full.
Are you sure about this? I just tried it on my XLT and the keypad unlocks the drivers side door only. It does not do any other function. Are you saying it should do more?

Is there a setting I am missing that will enable the keypad to unlock all doors and the tailgate then lock all the doors and tailgate?

I cant guarantee, but I am pretty sure on my XL there was an option within the Maverick settings screen that allows you to choose what happens when you unlock. I am 99% I have mine set so when I click the key fob unlock once, it unlocks ALL my doors. Since I have 2 kids and have heard limited complaining that the back doors were locked when they tried to get in. I would assume this would be the same on an XLT.

I don't know why the wired keypad would be any different but the wireless stick on keypads can definitely lock and unlock and you can either unlock just the driver's door or all doors and tailgate depending on the sequence of buttons you push. This is straight from the instruction manual and obviously number 5 doesn't apply to the Maverick:

It's how it worked on my Edge as well. Just press and hold the bottom 2 buttons and bam... Locked

No idea you could do this either and I had one on my f150 since 2006. Probably couldn’t do it on that model.

will try a stick on on tailgate. I find it a hassle to have to walk to the door keypad every time I want lock and unlock tailgate which is allot.

Looks like you can potentially program it yourself. Few sources say you program it the same way you add a keyfob. They mention you also have to have and program each keyfob at the same time as well.

That's a good idea. Or even something less conspicuous like a thumbprint/fingerprint reader or something. Could even be built into the Ford blue oval that contains the backup camera.
If a person is working in the trades there is a good chance the finger print idea will not work. My finger prints are virtually worn off and are not readable. I couldn’t get the reader on my computer to read my print and when I went for my TSA trusted flyer card they had trouble scanning my fingerprint.
