Works with or without a data plan. If you have your phone near you or the watch on wifi it will work. I use it when I'm about to go somewhere and get the AC going. Florida is about 5 miles from the sun so it comes in handy.

I think the only people at the dealerships to be impacted would be sales people. Change their role to customer service that isn't incentive based aka screwing people for money and some keep their jobs. Will still need parts and service and all the finance people. I can order everything online...
