I am using Ford MyKey option to limit speed for my kid for safety reason and vehicle longevity. Current speed limit is 75 MPH that I think is good enough for 20 years old person. I would like to limit high RPM to let's say 4500 RPM / "pedal to the floor" option when someone else but not me is driving a car especially during break-in period.
i was considering a few options:
1. Check if forscan can limit RPM range or program threshold up to 4500 rpm - i could not find such an option.
2. buy some aftermarket limiter if it exist. i couldn't find one that is limiting RPM to certain threshold
3. Installing potentiometer between gas pedal and run-by-wire module
4. bend or modify a gas pedal so it will not go all the way down or put some stop block( physical limiter so pedal cannot be pressed all the way down.)
Please advise if there is better option to limit RPM.
Thank you! 😉

I remember when I first started driving and my father told me at least 1,000 times not to bring the RPMs past 3,000. I didn't know anything back then but of course being a teenager the first and most frequent thing I did was bring the engine well past 3,000rpms. That car wound up lasting forever and was passed on to my younger brother who eventually ripped all 4 wheels off of it going over a curb after he fell asleep at the wheel. I think I did my father a favor with all those Italian tune ups I gave the car.

That being said, if you're that concerned, there are OBD adapters you can put on the vehicle which will do almost exactly what you're talking about, limit speed, will GPS track the vehicle and will even alert you if it's taken outside of a specified radius to your home. Some of the things you're suggesting are a bit......out there but I'm sure it comes from a good place.

Also, a co-worker with a driving age kid forced his kid to watch youtube videos of bad accidents which apparently scared him enough. Not saying I agree with it but apparently it worked.

There is no issue with a kid. Nice smart kid. there is no RPM gauge on hybrid Maverick. I told him not to go over 50% in stupid useless hybrid meter.

How about you raise your kid to drive properly,
Let me handle my kid education. This is not parental education forum! Thank you in advance.
It is technical question to limit RPM or pedal to the floor scenario during break-in period. That can be applicable to:
1. car break-in period.
2. car rental / Turo car sharing
3. Employee driving / landing a car.
4. kids drawing, etc.

I think you would be much better off buyer the kid a beater car, if he wrecks that not much is lost. I remember how I drove my dad's car & I wouldn't want mine driven like that!

I would never do something like that. Sometimes the throttle gets you out of a bad situation when the brakes might make it worse.

I think i will let this idea go with limiting RPMs. Kind of makes sense not to limit RPM. I am definitely limiting speed to 80mph and warning message to 75mph via ford mykey.
Thank you all for this thread replies !
