...and you are getting close to an obstruction? Our old explorer does that and it's very handy. Or do we rely on the camera?

No it does not. If you optioned co-pilot 360 it has cross traffic alert but that is not the same.

Rear Parking Aid requires Lariat + Lariat Luxury Package, unless you ordered as a fleet vehicle.

Otherwise, you get the federally mandated Rear View Camera only.

If you have a hybrid, it will make a sound when you are backing as soon as you put it in reverse. This is to warn anyone around the vehicle. When in reverse, the hybrids do it on electric power only, so the sound is need to let people know since there is no engine noise.

Yes, but that doesn't address the question posed in this thread.

Hybrids have essentially two different almost pulsing-like sounds for drive and reverse. That's the pedestrian alert. It's not for the driver and does not have anything to do with being in proximity to anything else.

Ok, thanks. I just wanted to make sure there wasn't something broken. I drove our old explorer for the first time in a while and it scared the crap out of me when it started beeping. 😲:ROFLMAO:

Seems kind of weird they would drop that feature it was handy and worked pretty good.

Well they didn't really drop it so much as put it only on the top trim for 2022. For 2023 now you have to spend even more, as it is a part of yet another package you have to add on to your Lariat w/luxury package.

Doesn’t the steering wheel-pedals interface perform that function?
There's an old IT joke acronym:: PEBKAC - problem exists between keyboard and chair. This situation is similar.

Personally I'm glad it doesn't. Buddy of mine has something like that on his '16 f350 xl. If you pull a trailer much it's constantly beeping. I think it's supposed to sense there's a trailer hooked up and automatically turn off, but it's very inconsistent. Everytime you go into reverse you've gotta turn the damn thing off. Not a massive inconvenience but still annoying as hell.

Correct. I'm also noticed other hybrids and EVs having a warning sound while in reverse. Some people here have complained about the sound the Maverick makes when doing this, but once you hear what Honda and Toyota sound like (sort of a growling noise), you will have lost your argument.

I tell everyone that the Maverick backup warning is based on the cowbell from the Rolling Stones Honkey Tonk Women. That makes it way cooler... until some kid asks who the Stones are...

Mine usually plays Kraftwerk's 'Boing Boom Tschak' when the brake releases
