Yes. It has been a standard feature in pretty much all cars for decades. That's why the whole Kia/Hyundai thing is baffling. It's akin to them forgetting to add wipers.

Yes. Every Ford sold in the US for decades has had SecuriLock, Ford's PATS (Passive Anti-Theft System). There is a microchip in the key that must be recognized or the vehicle will not start.

What you're hearing about is Hyundai/Kia until recently selling certain models that did not come with this basic security feature.

Thanks for the links! I was being way too specific in my searches and not getting anything relevant

Agreed. But it also worried me because the Maverick is a cheaper truck

No need to worry. Even a Focus or a Fiesta has this basic safety feature going back to 2000. Hyundai/Kia just cut corners on their cheaper models... :(

Yep the Kia/Hyundai fiasco is ridiculous.

Aside from them, Unfortunately passive anti-theft can be electronically defeated, especially easy in Mopar and Ram products. That’s why many of us who also own Hellcat and TRX vehicles have had a Ravelco device installed.

Fortunately, Ford products have been (relatively) unscathed.

The Hyundai/Kia security thing just blows my mind. Of all the things to skimp on, that simple security feature is not it. I'm sure this is happening elsewhere, but local police departments here are offering free wheel locks for Hyundai/Kia owners.

Well my battery is at 11.3v so hopefully starts in the morning. No longer holding a charge.
