OK. I told my GF about my order (XL Hybrid Atlas Blue, no options). She doesn’t think we need a truck. She wants me to change my order to Area 51. It may make the difference between her allowing me to get the truck or not. I have a scheduled production date of 12/19. Take the chance to tell the dealer I want to change the color? What impact do you think this would make on production happening? I don’t really need another vehicle, but I want a little truck.

And they aren’t even married! Although if she is paying for it then I guess she gets final approval.

Hahaha, are you married? Although I’m not, it’s as close to it I’ve ever been. You gotta get buy in from your spouse (or spouse equivalent) Or be in the dog house. I’m paying for it.

I realize that perhaps you do not want to interject "dishonesty" into your relationship. If you want the atlas blue however, I believe I would have your salesperson send you an email that the color cannot be changed. Salesperson should be helpful and do this....

If anyone tells you that they do not lie to their wife, ask them what they say when she comes back from the hairdresser, her hair does NOT look good and she says: "Honey, how does my hair look? How about this new dress?

40 years last Sept. We have worked well together. I mentioned I was thinking about a new truck and her response was, "sure, but you have to get rid of the other two first." I explained the mileage/tow delemia I have with the Ranger and VW and said the new truck solves the problem with safety upgrades. Her response, "Go For It then."

Nah man GF. 100% different if you're married and have kids. Right now one solid fight and you could be walking separate ways. Well, you'll be driving an atlas blue your way but still.

Ill be completly honest. If shes going to bitch about a color of a truck you better think real hard before putting a ring on her. I've been married 6 years (I'm 34) with two kids. Your going to have many arguments and a truck color does not need to be one of those.. My wife said I didn't need a z06. I bought it anyways and love it every time I get in it.. She got over it no problem. Yours will also with Atlas if that's what you want.

First, didn't think you could change scheduled orders.

Second, don't need a truck... But if we do it has to be this color? That's just playing games.

Wow. My boyfriend hates Area 51. I really like it but did take into account that he hates it. When I ordered I also took into account that I'm pretty sure I'll hate the color in a couple years because it's everywhere. I'm glad I didn't pick it because I'm already starting to get sick of it. I'd probably have had a hard time resisting if it was a metallic paint.

The boyfriend was considering Carbonized Gray, Eruption Green (if it had become available,) or Hot Pepper Red. I don't know why, but I really dislike driving red vehicles (and we drive each other's vehicles often.)

The point of this long-winded post is that there is no "allowed" to order-- that's insanely controlling and not healthy. Insistent on her own car color? That's fine... but telling you that you can't buy a truck for yourself because it's not the color she'd prefer is completely out of line.

I'd have lived with the HPR and he'd have been fine with me getting A51... but we'd probably friendly razz each other about it as long as we own the trucks-- ie, "Nice truck but what were you thinking with that color?"

To the original question, can you change the color-- my understanding is that you can't if you're already scheduled and have a VIN. Keep the order in... and if your girlfriend tells you you "can't" get the truck because you picked the wrong color... I'd re-evaluate the relationship. That's ridiculous.

IMO not supporting insignificant choices -- even if you disagree-- by your SO is toxic. Ultimatums that say "do it my way or you're not doing it at all" are toxic. This does not apply to health, safety, or mission critical life stuff... but it certainly applies to color choice. In my work I see a lot of incredibly bad relationships and that made it a lot easier for me to decide I'm okay with being alone for the rest of my life. I don't need the toxic bs.

...but I'm now in a great relationship and we support each other. We both feel spoiled by the other. We're not married either, but we're on our way to that.

hummmm, might be easier to change the GF rather than the truck color. Just sayin’. Lol

Wow, just wow!!! Controlling much? Your not even married and shes dictating to you the color you can have and telling you you dont need a truck? I'd run quickly from that one. It wont get any better, and you cannot change people.

This being said, when I ordered my pickup, my wife said well, your car is 15 years old , and shot. I bought that new and put every mile on it. In between that she has had 3 dodge caravans and 1 dodge journey. 1 van and the journey were totalled by stupid drivers hitting her. The 2nd van we bought used and it had transmission issues so we traded it out quickly. She is on the 3rd caravan now.

So when I ordered my pickup thru Granger online and texted her at work about what I did, she said I'm so very happy for you, honey you deserve it. She asked me what color it was, I told her and she said it sounds beautiful. I started ordering accessories, and wheels for it to doll it up. Do you know what her response was? She said doll it up, personalize it, it's been 15 years you do everything for me and the kids, you deserve it.

I'm a car nut. i have 6 vehicles besides her van. I have 2 barracuda project cars. A 67 and a 69. One is a father and son project, a 1988 dodge Daytona shelby Z, a 2007 mustang GT, a 94 chevy pickup, and "lucky" a 2008 chevy HHR that I call lucky because I'm lucky it still runs. She could care less about all my car stuff. Do you know why? Because I'm home tinkering with it, and not out at a bar somewhere. I'm teaching my son how to fix stuff. Because all the Bill's are payed, and we dont go hungry.

The point is, if your the one driving it, and paying for it, you should be getting what you want, and in the color you want. Not sure how old you are son, but theres more women out there than men, if your getting the milk for free now, it ain't really free. If shes dictating to you what you can and cant do now, it wont get better once theres a ring on her finger. Ask me how I know. My first wife was that way. I have been happily married to number 2 for the last 12 years.
