Hi Gpp, in Sanford NC, yes you can use 10w30, since winters are not bad there at all.
The advantage to using a good full-synthetic (any brand) 10w30 oil is that they use far less VII chemicals, for better NOACK and cleaner pistons. If it was a 0w30 or 5w30, oil formulators need to counteract the effect of too much VII chemical additives by putting in more anti-oxidants, which themselves can get depleted too soon.

For any Ecoboost or any DI-turbo engine, I would try to see if significant fuel dilution is happening, and then step up to using a good thicker 0w40 or 5w40 since fuel will try to thin it out some anyway. If you smell gasoline on the dipstick, then the usual typical fuel dilution is happening, and a 0w40 or 5w40 will counter that, where the fuel will actually thin it to a 5w30 weight in service.

Wix filters are OK, although an over-sized Fram Ultra XG3600 is the best oil filter choice I see. Filters better, holds more dirt before clogging, doesn't cost much at walmart.

Manual recommends SAE 5W-30 Synthetic Blend Motor. Wix is fine if u don't care for the Motorcraft FL-910S filter. Personally, I will be using Pennzoil Ultra Platinum Synthetic 5W-30 and the Motorcraft filter but I'll use the Wix if I can't find the Motorcraft. I'm in the old fart era myself :ROFLMAO:

The manual says to use 5W-30 unless you're below negative 20 F. Why do you want to lubricate your engine less when it's cold? 5W will always work better at startup than 10W, plus it's guaranteed to be a better oil. This is a crazy powerful little engine, don't skimp on lube. It's more powerful than an 80s Corvette, so don't use 80s oil in it. Leave the cheap oil for your Briggs & Stratton.

For oil, use what the manual says to. These little 4 cylinder turbos have tighter tolerances than your daddy's ford. And even the cheap walmart super tech synthetic is WORLDS better than the best oils of the 1970's. Ford's engineers know what they are doing.

Motorcraft filters are really good for the money, too. There are teardown videos on youtube. They are a great value for what they cost.

WIX, NAPA Gold (made by WIX) or Motorcraft in that order. My cars, trucks, motorcycle, tractor, boat, generator all WIX. It would take a gun to get a brand X in anything I own.

5W-30 Synthetic and Wix filter. I won't disagree with that.

thats fine but find one in your area that will use the oil and filter YOU want to use and provide and let them get their hands dirty.

This is really good oil for a direct injected turbo engine. I used it in my previous Escape ecoboost from the first oil change and 130k miles later engine ran like a top and used oil analysis were excellent. I've always had to order it online since I can never find it sold locally and the regular Pennzoil Platinum that is readily available in stores doesn't compare in testing to the Ultra Platinum.

Just remember it is what comes AFTER the w is what counts.

0w30
5w30
10w30

Are all 30 weight oil.

Lower number before the w is better for winter. You need to decide what winter means. For example San Francisco has no winter.
