Is it physically possible to attach a snow plow to a unibody vehicle? Surely there's a way to rig it up. Doesn't mean it's a good idea or that it won't do serious damage.

The powertrain is not designed or suited for this application.

The unibody is not designed or suited for this application.

Do so at your own risk and say goodbye to the warranty on most components in the vehicle.

Wouldn't put a plow on my Escape, wouldn't put one on a Maverick.

Need to step up to at least a Ranger before you should consider plowing with it, if not F-150 or F-250+, depending on use case.

Four wheel version with tow hooks to attach plow. They sold a tiny snow plow for my mid grade lawn tractor. Heard it worked fine, but Deep South couldn’t find anyone stocked it. ( wanted it for my beach like sand at ranch )

Beside the warnings not to in the manual, plowing tears up vehicles and transmissions. I would not recommend.

I would not even consider plowing with a Maverick. Here's what I have:
1940's Perrin Tractor with blade.

Definitely not. The Maverick is not set up in any way to plow. Even most "real" trucks are not set up to plow. You can't just slap a plow on any old Ranger or F150. That's why the automakers sell snow plow packages for their trucks.

Years ago when I sold Fords, I had a guy that INSISTED on getting a metal plow installed on his F150 crew cab. Ford didn't offer the snow plow package for the F150 crew cab, so this particular truck really shouldn't have had a plow put on it at all, and most installers I called would only put on a plastic plow. I finally found one that would install a metal plow, and when we got the truck back and lifted the plow so you could drive it, the front end sagged very noticeably from the weight.

I used to own a truck and offroad shop that sold snow plows as one of our product lines. I also have a snow plow on my 2014 Wrangler.

We sold Meyer Home Plows that use a front-mounted receiver hitch to mount the plow. I ran one of those on my 1999 Jeep Cherokee for several seasons and we mounted quite a few on unibody SUV's. They are small (typically 6'8" wide and only a couple of feet tall) and fairly light (about 300 lbs or less).

The trick to using one of these plows is to respect the limitations of the equipment. I never let a storm get more than 2-3" ahead of me before going out to plow my driveway and store parking lot. I didn't try to get the job done quickly or push mountains of snow. Limit the workload to private use; it is not for commercial or residential plowing services. If you do that, a decent unibody vehicle can handle it without tearing it up. Even with the Wrangler, which has a frame, I don't let the storm get more than 3-4" ahead of me; less, if it's a wet snow.

As always, there are exceptions to these rules and Ford is a particular one. None of the EB-powered Fords supports using a plow. This is because the plow blocks airflow to the intercooler and can cause overheating. We had a number of potential customers who told their Ford sales rep that they wanted to plow and were plenty upset to discover they'd been sold an EB-powered F-150 that wasn't supported for that use. The Maverick would have the same problem.

Ford plow packages do more than beef up the front end. They also add electrical load management to shut off functions such as climate control and other functions to avoid throwing warning lights and codes when the plow is mounted. If I remember correctly, they also upgrade the electrical steering assist to avoid overloading it. And I believe they relocate the outside air temp sensor so it's not behind the plow.

Bottom line, you could probably get away with a front receiver hitch mounted plow on a Maverick but you'd need to remove any evidence of plow components when going in for service and you'd have to avoid using the plow long enough to cause overheating. I think you'd be better off with a separate beater plow truck (or Jeep).

To add to the chorus here, unless you want to fuck up your truck, do not attempt to attach a snow plow to your Maverick.

I have to ask, what made you even think about using the Maverick as a snow plow platform? Did you figure that it would not be suitable anyway?

Given the severe difficulty in acquiring these vehicles, and how rare they currently are even as a class, I would forget this idea.

Get a lawn/yard tractor and rig that up. They're much more suited for the application.

Use the right tool for the job.

Water is extremely heavy in any form and your Mav is just not built for that kind of stess. Most vehicles aren't. Get a tractor. Designed exactly for that kind of heavy load. Save your Mav.

I found this on eBay and some what shocked. Growing up in the north and using plows, there is no way the Maverick would survive.

Go read the auction for some comedy!

Want to plow snow? Go buy a 3/4 ton Dodge Power Wagon with Sno Commander package. Most of the municipalities up in the northeast had these things. Dead reliable, and extremely tough. Comes complete with a Meyers plow, and rotating amber beacon on the roof.
