Hey everyone, I'm Chris and am new to the forum. After my experience last night, I looked around saw some people experiencing similar events with the hybrids but no one with the EcoBoost engine.

First off I have a 2022 Maverick XLT FX4 AWD with tow package. It was ordered in 10/21 and delivered 3/22 with approximately 8500 miles on it.

While driving on the highway last night at 70 mph my maverick completely shut off with no warning. I lost my engine, and all lighting with the exception of the instrument cluster and infotainment display. Luckily I was able to get safely from the left lane to the shoulder. Once on the shoulder I shifted to park and tried to restart. I got nothing. When the key was turned to start the dash cluster and infotainment display came on but the truck made no effort to start. None of the interior or exterior lighting worked and all the door controls were dead. While I waited for a tow I tried disconnecting the battery to reset all the computers and nothing changed. after 2 hours of standing on the side of the interstate ford roadside showed up and towed it to the dealership.

This morning the dealership goes out and it starts right up but each time they start it I get a notification on the app that my truck is in deep sleep mode. They won't be able to try to diagnose it for another week and in the mean time it will sit on their lot.

Looking to see if anyone has seen this yet, Needless to say I'm extremely reluctant to drive it if they don't have a definitive answer as to what happened.

Thanks for your responses in advance.

@Ford Motor Company , this sounds like one you would be interested in.

That's rough. Glad you were able to safely pull over. Will be interesting to see root cause failure.

I had an issue with my Bronco Sport, which also has the 2.0L engine, constantly going into deep sleep mode, however it never died on me while driving. The dealership did a charge test, which it passed and the Bronco still kept going into deep sleep mode even while they had it. Contacted Ford Customer Service who in turned contacted the dealership and told them that they needed to complete two tests, not just the one. As it turns out, the battery was defective. Even though it would charge, it wasn't discovered that it was defective until they did a battery current charge state test, the one that Ford Customer Service told the dealership that they also had to complete, which it failed. Once the dealership replaced the battery I haven't had any problems with it.

Take a volt meter and see what voltage is coming at the battery.

Did Ford get a bad batch of alternators?

Me thinks they got a bad batch of 12v batteries. Mine never shows over 50% charge (12.2) after a very short rest of minutes. Even after sitting on charger overnight and in float mode settings it drops right back into 12.4ish range in minutes

Over the years I've had two delivered with borderline crap batteries and two that the OEM batteries lasted 8+ years and that I changed out before failure.
Never ever had a bad battery shut of the engine while driving. You'd think a battery dying while driving would be throwing codes before it got that bad.

Thanks for the suggestions so far. The dealership has it scheduled to diagnose it on 10/31. My fear is that they won't be able to nail down a cause and just tell me to let them know if it happens again.

So far ford customer service has not been very helpful. I'm waiting on a call back from a supervisor after they told me that they couldn't get me a loaner until a tech looks at it. Looks like I am without a set of wheels for 10 days.

You stated: "each time they start it I get a notification on the app that my truck is in deep sleep mode" From what I've seen with the hybrids, that generally means low voltage to your electronics. Vehicle will start and run, but the computer senses voltage is low to run everything and throws out the "deep sleep mode". If this was a hybrid I would suspect the cable running from the battery to the underhood fuse box. However since yours is a Ecoboost, sure sounds like low voltage from the battery. Honestly if I was you I would put a volt meter on the battery and check the reading. Then put a trickle charger on it for the night and see what happens. Good luck.

Do you have AAA road service. Call their battery truck and have them run a diagnostic on the electrical system at the dealership. You will get your answer in a hour. AAA will print out a report and if the battery is the problem. Thank AAA take the report and go to the service desk with the report and get a new battery. If it was me i would have AAA install a new battery and move on with a AAA battery.

Okay, this is just a shot in the dark...but have them tighten the 10mm bolt on the negative charge on the battery. My EB battery was dead at 1,500 miles. I had been getting the deep sleep mode message a few times the weeks leading up to the dead battery.. Ford Road Assist came and jumped it. BUT, after 20 jump tries with 3 different jump batteries, (car wouldn't turn over), he got out a 10mm socket wrench, tightened the bolt on the negative side of the battery and it started up right away. He did a meter reading and said battery was really really low so to run it for over 30 minutes. I just passed 7,000 miles, 7 months later, and no problems! I did shut off the wifi in the car so it doesn't talk to fordpass app, because I only drive on weekends so car goes into deep sleep mode making app useless anyway. The shutoff of system wifi just gives me peace of mind the app won't drain the battery. Good Luck and keep us posted!

We had a bunch of issues and dealer trips with our 2020 Escape. Not a 2.0EB but a hybrid constantly going into deep sleep mode as well. After about 4 dealer visits and them "testing" the 12v battery and saying it's good.....our tech kept suspecting the battery and finally decided to "make" the battery bad and that way got a new once warranted by Ford. Its been fine ever since and he installed a larger size battery as well since there's plenty of room for one. The one that it originally came with was tiny, almost looked like a golf cart or lawnmower 1/2 sized battery..

The main test that they need to do is a battery charge state. If the battery is defective, it WILL fail this test.
