I'm in the market for steel wheels to mount winter snow tires for my XLT. My mechanic has called around local sources and only found pricey alloy wheels. Any suggestions were we might find some steel wheels? Any NW Pa XL owners looking to upgrade their stock wheels? Any on line sources of inexpensive wheels?

Look for used Bronco, Focus, Land Rover, and Volvo rims too. There are a ton of low cost options in this pattern/offset.

So am I but I'm waiting till I actually get it. Saw some Bronco wheels I would have snagged IF I had my Maverick. Betcha it will do great with snows on it this winter.

I looked for a while myself and asked around in my area for the same reason and didn't find any good deals. Ended up with these from Amazon. About as cheap as you can get.

For previous vehicles, steelies could be found really cheap (like $40/piece). But, the delta is so small between steelies and decent alloy wheels for the Maverick that I'm just going to get some wheels I actually like for my snow tires. I can't stomach paying ~$110/piece (after tax, shipping) for some steelies.

thanks for your perspective @stoptothink. I'm wondering. Can you find alloy wheels in the $110/wheel range?

Not new, but I've found a few I like (on sale) for $150 or a little less. They're quite a bit lighter than steelies, so I'm cognitively justifying the extra cost with the excuse that they'll perform (very very) slightly better.

For cheap alloys there's these American Racing wheels for ~$112. If you create an account and leave them in your cart for a day or so their system will typically send you an offer for 5% off or free shipping.

I'm looking at moving to Colorado soon and I will probably need winter tires as well. I was thinking about heading to my local salvage yards. We have a pull your own parts style yard nearby that only charges $35 for aluminum wheels and $15 for steel. With any luck I could find a matching set of 16s or 17s from a focus/fusion/mustang etc. with TPMS still in them.
