Well there is a setting for the hybrid to be flat towed easily set by the drive mode button below the shift knob - the steps are ( and also in the owners manual ) -
So no the motor "doesnt have to be running" - only every 6 hours or start of day. But again it just takes a minute or two to read the owners manual to know that indeed it is safe to flat tow it and not post " Great way to ruin a brand new vehicle and NOT have warranty fix it." which on the hybrid is 100% NOT true and I would add it IS designed for that since there is actually a setting for doing just that. But your original question was actually WHO would want to flat tow a Maverick not the procedure TO do that. The answer is again , usually RV folks with a big motorhome.
- Do not exceed 70 mph
- Put the vehicle in "neutral tow" mode; follow these procedures found in the owner's manual
- If you're towing the vehicle a long distance, run the engine for one minute at the start of each day (or every 6 hours)
