I am a roll over 2022 fixing to order as 2023. Wanted a hybrid but leary of the low speed brake issues. Is this a problem that affects all hybrid maverick's. What percent have this problem? anyone know? I am on fence about reordering as an eco simply due to brake issues. How widespread and big a problem is it , and is it likely to be fixable? Thanks

I only have 1800 miles on mine and have not had a braking issue.

I have had mine for a little over a month and can't say I'm having any major breaking issues. Sure the breaks are a little different but I got use to them after about 10 minutes of driving it off the dealer lot. Granted I don't drive it much (only put 200 miles on it since I got it) so maybe I just haven't run into the issue yet...

I have seen some anomalies but have adapted to them - I have 4500 miles on mine, wouldn't trade it for anything else out there, enjoy putting $28 in gas every 2-3 weeks in it, LOL. The battery harness concern is my biggest fear, and I will probably be checking that myself soon...

My understanding is that the amount of 'braking' is determined by the mode you are in. 'Eco' mode gets you more regenerative braking than other modes and is likley going to be more aggressive. If you don't like the braking, experiment with the different modes.
Maybe what people are reporting as 'problems' are just the way the mode is programmed by Ford and is less of a problem and more like an 'experience'.

We are looking forward to getting our Hybrid Lariat, albeit as a MY23.

Good luck.

My hybrid (received April 1st) has 9,000 miles on it now. I am quite fond of the vehicle and really like the 40+ mpg I get. However, the one true complaint would be the braking. It is STUPID sensitive. Too the point where I am worried that I might be rear-ended at a light when I am inching along and it "grabs" really hard and abruptly stops. I am also concerned when someone else in my family drives the vehicle as I've been driving it daily and still haven't gotten used to it. Lets hope that a recall/fix is coming in the near future...

I have noticed that too...a *clunk* as the brakes grab and abruptly stop the truck. It doesn't do it every time, but often enough that it is a nuisance. Is that normal or something that should be addressed by Ford?

Tejas, its ALL hybrids. The members including i, have adjusted their driving methodology, which you have to. You have to adjust to 1 pedal driving as well. I have learned that right at point of vehicle stoppage i release the brakes, instead of pushing harder on the pedal(this is a tough habit to break, but can be mastered).

If you dont mind changing your driving habits, you wont even notice it later on. Some of the members use the L 'gear' as well it helps. ECO mode has a different feel as well.

I use the regen as my major vehicle braking, i usually only use the brake pedal at stop signs/lights for just a few secs, if i am going to be at a light for more then 10secs, i use the brake hold feature.

Hope this helps.

Thanks, my wife and I are in our 70's and not looking for thrills when we go to routinely stop.

Yes, I use the "L" and it seems to help, but 99.5% of the time I really don't even notice a braking issue... I've gotten use to how to drive my Maverick. The only reason I agree about the slow roll braking is b/c my son came to visit this past weekend. I let him drive and the issue came up, but it didn't take long for him to make the adjustment and then it was fine. Would I put this as a "Deal Breaker" ... NO WAY! I love my Maverick and it checks off all the boxes that I wanted with only one small exception AWD Hybrid. However, if AWD takes away from my mpg then I don't need it.

At low speeds its always a game of push to much and lock to stop or push too little and almost cant stop. Its weird and inconsistent. But not a major issue. I also have issues with brakes uneven pavement with several up/down dips in the road. really freaks the brakes/regen the heck out.

I wouldn't worry about it. Most people's issues are minor (and pretty much normal hybrid operation). Most people get used to the hybrid braking and adapt. I think everyone will experience some degree of braking "weirdness", but once you get used to it, it isn't a big deal.

Of course, some people are certainly having abnormal braking issues that need to be addressed, but I don't think this is as common of an issue as it seems from reading online forums.

Hopefully a future software update will make everyone's experience better! That's the negative part....for most people's complaints, there is no "fix" until Ford releases a software update.

Most of the people having major issues/more bothered by the issues are being doing a lot of stop and go driving. If you do have to do a lot of this type of driving you may be more likely to experience braking issues. If you do more rural/highway driving, you are less likely to have negative braking experiences.

I have the brake Gremlins but as with all the different issues people are having it's the luck of the draw, I'm living with them as hopefully Ford will figure it out. I The meantime I'm enjoying the 50+ MPG From my Hybrid 😁

I don’t think there is an issue. I think it’s mostly non hybrid people coming to hybrids the first time and not knowing how to brake. You will learn after a month or so.
