Anyone know if it may be possible to remove the disable nag screen on the display when playing music?

I use a Flash drive plugged into the USB to play my music on. When driving the system blocks me when I try to scroll through the albums/artist list. AAARRRRGHH! Really? So if I'm on a road trip driving for hours, then the only way for me to change albums is to pull over on the shoulder (not a good idea on an interstate) or I have to wait until I come to a stop. That's total nonsense. I understand that they are trying to keep idiots on cell phones from killing people, but how is disabling the music menu going to prevent that? I rented a Kia once with a similar system and I wasn't prevented from scrolling through the list. Ford could have simply put a start up agreement that you had to hit okay (like I do when I use my Garmin GPS) if it was a liability issue.

Long story short, anyway to disable the screen with Forscan perhaps? Was bad enough I had to give up my CD player when I traded in my Escape, but now I can't even play my music when I want to.

My 2018 Escape S was the base model so it had SYNC 1 and the tiny 4.5 inch screen. But if I didn't want to use the CD player, I could still plug a flash drive in the USB socket and use the physical directional buttons on the dash to navigate through the music menu. No warnings or disable screen like the Maverick to stop me from doing so while driving. Feels like I took a step backwards from the Escape to the Maverick in terms of the audio system.

C'MON FORD!, a simple software update could remove the block. Don't punish all of us just because some tards can't stay off thier phones! Blocking the music menu on the touchscreen isn't going to prevent some fool from causing an accident.

Guess no one has a fix for this issue, eh? I plan on contacting FORD directly. Would hope that if they got thousands of complaints that they may do a software update and remove this nuisance. I can't be the only one not happy with it.

Interesting issue-if it helps, I agree, this would be annoying. Toggling through that display is no more distracting that looking over at the display when playing with the radio or playing with apple carplay. Heck, even looking at navigation systems can be just as distracting as handling a cellphone, but nobody is touching those.

Unfortunately I've got nothing useful to add.

Well just wondering how others are playing thier music if they don't use a USB flash drive like myself? Through thier phone? For me, I have like 800 CD's that I can choose to download to my flash drive via my pc and Windows media player. I have a pay by month phone plan so I'm limited to how much high speed data I can use per month. Besides I don't like using my phone for music or maps (I have Garmin GPS's for that).

Not sure you can. That is a system-level restriction. It is stupid as it prevents me from searching Waze on the screen while driving but I can unplug my phone, search on it, and plug it back in and it work as fine. That must be less distracting, I guess....

I love when computers think for you. The bottom line is that Ford would for sure be sued if there was an accident because someone was changing the radio

This sort of restriction is the same in Apple CarPlay and android auto as well.

I'm a total convert to spotify (music/podcast phone app), audible books (amazon-owned books-on-tape app), and podcasts. I stopped listening/buying CDs probably around 2007, probably stopped buying music altogether in 2011.

I listen to music every day, so I subscribe to spotify and gain the flexibility of listening to what I want (just about everything is available), when I want it.

Normally when I drive now I just que up a playlist (my own or a random generated one built by spotify) or a book on tape and let it play. I try not to use the infotainment equipment in a vehicle at all when in motion. I might be in the minority, but I like how the big Maverick infotainment screen is actually small in comparison to rival crossovers and the Santa Cruz. I don't want my attention drawn to fancy things inside the vehicle: I want to get to where I'm going with an intact truck.

You can connect your phone to your pc, over USB, and download music to it. Then use your phone’s Bluetooth connection to the radio (or Android Auto / Apple CarPlay, via cord). None of that uses any data. Of course, it doesn’t solve:
…I don't like using my phone for music…

BlueSnake77, I too use a USB drive for my music as well as a Commander Touch SiriusXm. The safety shutdown of the scroll function is frustrating to me. Thankfully, I do not have to drive long distances on an interstate anymore.

I do not have the particular fix for this issue, but it seems to me that use of Forscan we should be able to disable the function. When I get the courage, I'm going to buy the cruise switches and enable cruise on my XL, but before I do, I want to investigate how to disable a few things including the warning screen on the display.

When/If I find out, I'll post the information.

Edit: After thought to the above. Interestingly, the reason I like the USB over the SiriusXM is the fact the information is one the Ford screen and much easier to see, instead of looking down at the smaller Commander Touch screen. It's a little thing that has become important to me.

Remember, Forscan is only changing exposed values that the existing code is checking to enable/disable features. If there was no programming intention to allow/disallow the lockout then there's little Forscan can do about it.

Well, I was hopeful. Thanks for the explanation...

I too have the same issue and complaint. I added an eliminator to my wife Lexus to allow access while driving. You could not enter a new destination into the navigation while driving and that was a real aggravation.

The next step up in fiddling with the code would be something like FMods which is a jailbroken version of Sync. Although at a glance I don't see any mods for it that advertise disabling the lockout for browsing while in motion.
