The Hybrid 43 MPG I have averaged at over 14,000 miles is TOUGH to beat...I don't know how anyone, who is NOT towing...does not go with the hybrid mav over the EB...or SC. Just my.02
the real transmission, AWD, and IRS along with the 4K tow make the deal for me on ECOboost Maverick. Max MPG has never been a factor for me at all, and the ECO is still way better than our F-150 and marginally better than my v-6 Jeep Grand Cherokee.

Yeah, I'm usually about 20 mpg in my V6 Edge. Any of these options are a pretty big improvement

So as I head to the rental car lot yesterday, the is a Santa Cruz sitting there. It's a SEL with Activity Package (no turbo or AWD). When I rented a Ridgeline it made me confirm I wouldn't buy one of those. Opposite situation with a Santa Cruz I could see myself owning one. Some thoughts in no particular order.

-The looks grow on you.
-The Tonneau cover is really hard to close. Like painful on the hand hard. Maybe it's just an issue with this one...?
-The underbed storage is really shallow. It couldn't even take my not particularly thick work backpack.
-Once getting used to the entertainment system it's pretty nice. Wireless Android Auto and a wireless charging pad is awesome. Can't believe the upper trim of Santa Cruz and all Mavericks don't have wireless. It's a big miss.
-The non turbo is pretty weak. But gas mileage is better than I expected.
-Strange in SEL, has lane centering but no adaptive cruse. Lane centering works really well.
-The instrument cluster is busy and despite being all digital not customizable enough. Also, and maybe it's just me, the speedo on left and tach on right seems off.
-it's got ability to select gears
-Big focus spelling things out for driver. When you turn on windshield wipers the setting its on shows up on the instrument cluster.
-Roof rails and cross bars looks sharp. Maverick should have this option.
-Pretty loud. Maybe due to the roof cross bars in part.

If I come across more before I turn in tomorrow I'll add.
This, IMO, is Ford's biggest whiff on the 8AT Mav. Inexcusable to not include Ford's Select-Shift feature, especially on the upper trims.

Recalls are less worrisome than issues without them. Overall not seeing a lot of big issues with the EB Maverick, especially considering it's first year. I feel pretty good about getting '23 EB whenever that is.

Haven't followed th Santa Cruz recently to know their issues. But considering the 10 year 100k warranty don't think I'd be too worried there either. I don't put a ton of stock in first year Gremlins it's what happens with the early adopters of anything.
Hey Craig, how are you feeling about the Clemson game Monday night?

I'd feel a lot better if we had a proven QB, and y'all didn't come so close to beating us last year; but we don't, and you did. I'm a little concerned.

I don't understand this feature. How do you select a gear while driving an automatic?

In my F150, Ford put a little toggle button on the shifter, one side is "+" the other "-". You simply push which ever side to go up, or down, a gear. The trans will hold that gear until you up/down shift via the button, or go back to normal auto mode. Works basically like paddle shifters, but is more suited to a truck (working/towing/hauling/etc.. vs paddle shifters in a sports car.

Very interesting. Thanks for the explanation.

On my Edge you shift down to S mode, then paddle shifters.

The Santa Cruz (and Tacoma for that matter) you push the lever to the left in drive, then can push forward or backward to change gears. Very useful on long downhills.

I've driven a stick about 50% of my driving life, but I'm afraid I'd ruin the transmission if I tried that with an automatic. Thankfully the Maverick doesn't have it. :)

It's a feature on my Ford Fusion. I literally never use it (95% of my driving is city/commuting).

Great writeup!
I watched all the Mav and SC videos last year- and although I super admire the Mavs I've seen in person (looks-wise), the SC isn't as bad as I thought it would be.

If the price point and MPGs on the SC were better, I would have considered one.
Thats what I was thinking, when they came out ,I said great ,then the price?? then they hybrid maverick is double the MPG. my 2019 f150 is same mileage 20-26. looks like my 11 month wait will be a 2023!!

Its really only useful when towing imo. My f150 had it and outside of just displaying what gear your in you could just use it for downhill engine braking or dropping a gear before a climb. It really works more like a gear lock out but the computer will really never let you hurt it.

I like to select gears if I need to pass on a 2 lane road and want to get ready to accelerate quickly. Also like it on the long down hill.

So what you are saying is that Hyundai has extra Santa Cruz's that they don't need at the dealerships, so they are sliding them to rental...
