@MrLM002 You do realize there was a time when almost every car was built body-on-frame? Where those trucks? Should we have stopped calling it a car when they switched to unitized bodies? Should we not call the Tesla Model 3 a car since for almost 100 years every "car" had an internal combustion engine but the Model 3 does not? Your logic does not work.

The media is wrong, the dictionary is wrong, Wikipedia is wrong, everyone is wrong. Except MrLM002. He’s right. And he’s fighting for, well…

Actually, I have no idea what he’s fighting for.

My Maverick replaced a 1990 Chevy Silverado. No question that was a truck, correct?

Well, it does everything that truck did and can actually carry a little more payload than the Silverado.

The State of California says it's a truck as well, because it's registered as a commercial vehicle.

Sounds like a truck to me.

Perhaps we have different ideas of what these old logging roads are like. I don't have nearly enough ground clearance for the ones I have in mind.
I haven't experienced any logging roads but one thing for sure, the front suspension can take a pretty hard hit and seemingly not buckle😵💫. Was driving down the freeway and hit a traffic jam tonight and while slowly merging with traffic at about 3-4 miles an hour drove into seemingly monster pothole which felt like it was 2 feet wide and 10 or so inches deep. I didn't see the pot hole cause I was merging with traffic and it was dark. After getting home, I saw no damage on the under side of the wheel well, tire, or rim. Since I was going pretty slow and have the tow and FX4 packages, hopefully there's no damage that shows up later. Didn't seem to throw off the alignment or anything cause it seemed to tract straight afterwards, but i only drove up to 45 miles an hour in city traffic.

So then by this definition every unibody car made from the 60s on in your eyes are what? Not cars, are they car like vehicles but not really cars because they aren't body on frame. What do you call them if they aren't cars? Whats the Maverick then its unibody with a subframe so it's something inbetween then? Don't say pickup again, a pickup and pickup truck are the same thing. I agree that any vehicle with a seperate frame is stronger for heavy work but that single defining object does not make it a truck. If it did than every automobile made with a subframe would by your standard be a truck.

It's called cognitive dissonance. His brain has decided he's going to die on this hill, and it is simply not possible at this point to dissuade him. So don't waste your time. Just sit back and enjoy the show. Or better yet, use his example to recognize this unproductive mental state in yourself, and try to avoid it going forward. We are all vulnerable to it...no one is immune.

I guess now we know why the Aussies call them "Utes" and avoid the whole argument.
