XLT vs. Lariat Debate

Do some vehicles still come with non - leds ?

I have had a top of the line, hot model before. I was one of the first to get a 1993 mustang svt cobra. I bought it off the show room floor. Never test drove it, because nobody was getting a test drive. It had all the options. For this order I wanted more than the xl, but not all the bells and whistles on the lariat. I didn't want the lariat because I was never going to need, want, or even learn how to use a lot of the stuff. I ordered a basic, awd , xlt , with fx4
Many vehicles still come without LED headlights. I have a friend with a 2020 Escape SEL with a $33k sticker and halogen headlights, but that's just one example. Lots and lots of cars are still using halogens for whatever reason.

The XLT bottom seat fabric not being as durable as the Lariat and the noticable difference in appearance of the headlights and taillights thanks to the DRLs pushed me to Lariat.
I've never had adaptive cruise control with lane centering, and didn't see the point... now a jerk lent me his car that has it, and I am not sure I can buy a car that doesn't have it, which means Lariat WITH the luxury package, both of which have gotten more expensive for '23. Doh!

Can't get the hybrid with the lariat package in Canada so went with XLT Lux. I would have liked to get ACC, back-up sensors, power rear slider, upgraded stereo, and maybe wireless charging but that one doesn't matter much as I still need to plug in for Android Auto.
As it is I have the hybrid XLT with Lux, sunroof and rear slider an am pretty content. Two big things I want are ACC and back up sensors. Will likely do aftermarket leather seats at some point.

Because the transition is only happening recently.
2020+ Escape was designed when Ford was still using halogens standard, with LED replacing Xenon/HID as the "premium" upgrade on Titanium.
Bronco, Bronco Sport, Maverick were developed later on (launching in 2021 and 2022) and with shorter development cycles for BS & Mav since much of the work was already done for Escape, etc.
Expect next gen Escape to feature LED headlamps standard, perhaps as soon as the 2023 refresh yet to be unveiled. As well as all models going forward (after all, ~$20k Maverick, their cheapest model after EcoSport units run out, has LEDs standard).
But for now, even a 2022 Escape SEL plug-in hybrid can reach over $40k with dim halogen lamps. Ugh.
Yeah I was just using that particular vehicle as an example, though there are many across many different makes. I remember how surprised I was in 2014 when the Toyota Corolla debuted standard low-beam LEDs across the board - and then Toyota began applying that to all of their models, same with their suite of active safety stuff like ACC. Everyone else has pretty much followed suit.
Even my $20k rental Nissan Kicks has full LED headlights, fog lights, tail lights, auto high beams, and adaptive cruise.

Bought my XLT because of price, 3 months in and a 2,500 trip to Ohio and back with my dog, LOVE LOVE LOVE this truck, can not think of one thing that is is missing?
I went xlt I hate wireless car keys. I can use the keypad to open it up and lock the key in the console safe making it easy to park somewhere and have someone else pick it up. With lariat people could start it and drive away with the key inside.
Keys are way less problems for theft too

I got the exact spec I ordered, XLT 4K tow spray-in liner, full (ish) size spare and roll up bed cover. It is a fantastic truck for about 29K plus fees. This was an economic decision though, and I'm still debating selling it for what I owe and ordering a Lariat, JUST for adaptive cruise control. I did 200 miles on interstate five on the weekend and tried to tell myself it's OK, you can just reset your cruise control value 100 times manually.
BUT if I wasn't flinching at the extra 5K or so I would have for sure ordered the Lariat Lux version of my same truck.
This is likely my last gas-powered new vehicle purchase and is definitely my last time purchasing a new vehicle without ACC.

Not necessarily true. Vinyl seats suck if you live anywhere with warm weather. Living in the south I would never buy a car with vinyl seats, so that rules out the Lariat.

I apparently want one made of unobtanium. When I learned of the new Maverick and went to see one and sit in/test drive I could not find one. I finally found one an hour away that was a 4x4 I liked it and had already known what I wanted. I sat there while waiting for the order paperwork when the salesperson said that no more orders for Hybrids were allowed. I have been waiting to order a Lariat Luxury package in Area 51, the main reason for that decision is the electronics package available like electric sliding back glass, keyless entry with pushbutton start along with the enhanced safety items. I await the latest order date and have kept in touch with my local dealership. This will likely be the last new vehicle I ever buy so why not splurge a little.
