I think 10 hour drive or less I can make it work. I have tons of airline and hotel points from work travel, so I could fly and stay one night no problem. Go in late one day, stay one night, do paperwork first thing next morning, hit the road... So for $2500-3k savings it makes sense.

But multiple days driving, multiple nights in hotel, etc. You start to lose the benefit when you can't do the drive in one day.

Edit - distance dealer from major airport is a factor as well. Long McArthur is about 10 hours from me, but in the middle of nowhere. Getting to there from an airport would be a PITA.
There is an airport that United Airlines services Salina Airport (SLN) about 5 minutes from Long McArthur

LM will pick you up at the Wichita airport. If you finance through them they'll pay for the first 1k in travel expenses or transportation costs to drop ship your vehicle. The current transportation rate is $1.25 per mile. They own two (single vehicle) car transporters.

There are daily United Airlines flights into (SLN) Salina Regional Airport
Alaska, Allegiant, American, Delta, Southwest and United depart and arrive in Wichita (ICT) daily.

Van Bortel Ford in East Rochester NY does Ford Invoice pricing, which was $1000 under MSRP for mine.
They know all the stuff that Tim always talks about, and no games.
Ask for Paul Bowers. Feel free to tell him Mark B sent you.
I think @fordvideoguy read your correspondence during this evening's feel good segment of the live stream. He's thinking of creating a site to list and detail positive Ford dealers in the U.S. and Canada.

He did! I had sent him an email. It was cool.

I saw on reddit that Ed is going to do 3 percent off invoice again at Chapman in Philly

That's good. Is it official or rumoured? I emailed them a few months back and they said they would let me know if/when they would have any specials. I haven't been contacted yet.

for people that live outside of few hour drive from theses places does the math ever work out on the savings below MSRP (which seems pretty easy to get if you are ordering)? I've got a few Ford dealers all within about a 15 minute drive and gas/time is expensive.
My order from Granger is $3000 off MSRP. They have a total transaction fee of $225 (doc fee and temporary tag) and do not have any "required add-ons." The combination of low fees and the discount easily makes it worth it. Even if I spend $1500 on travel (flight there, driving back) I'm still coming out ahead of any deal I can get locally. I can drive back in one day so I probably will only need one night in a hotel, a one way flight on Southwest is likely to be around $250-$300, and gas even at 25 MPG/$5 gallon isn't likely to be more than $250. So realistically $1500 is a really high estimate of the cost.

Most of the dealers in my area bilk people for hundreds of dollars in fees ($699-$899 doc fees are not uncommon) and the lions share of them have various required dealer installed accessories. In the market these days it is hard to buy a vehicle without these accessories because buyers are lined up. In the past I simply refused to pay for these things and I was willing to walk away if they didn't drop them. Now, that often doesn't work.

Even buying for MSRP with a reasonable doc fee at a dealer 1000 miles away can still come out as a break even or slightly ahead. I enjoy road trips and I hate being forced to buy things I don't want just because a dealer "puts these on everything we sell." I'll gladly take a 1000 mile trip to to break even instead of paying for a bunch of crap I don't want to stay local. YMMV.

It's official. I saw the post on here but it disappeared. I called Ed to confirm the deal.

That would be a multi-day drive for me.

Maybe one of the closer dealers would make sense but probably not that one for me.

Fun road trip in new truck?

Granger would be multi day drive for me too... But $3000 makes it worth it.

Chapman is closer. But 3% of a 25k truck is $750. Still very nice, and maybe worth a flight and days drive back from Philly, but not an obvious saving over buying at MSRP here in Carolinas.

Chapman's $3k if they do that again would definitely be worth it for me. Even I pay $1k on flight, hotel, and gas. That's still $2k saved.

Anyone financing, consider those numbers doubled because for every dollar paid, you'll pay two after interest, etc.

yeah, good points. as it is now I can order one for MSRP very locally and I already put the deposit down (refundable of course). I'll certainly consider other options if something compelling comes up. the dealer wouldn't complain if they had another Maverick on the lot that they could sell at God knows what price :p

Is Granger doing their deal again? Haven't seen it confirmed. And Long McArthur MSRP isn't worth the drive for me. It's Granger or local.
