I have a confirmed order (but no build date) though a local dealer. I would like to go with Chapman for the 4% under MSRP, or maybe use that to leverage my dealer into a discount.

Is it possible to switch location of order like that?

I would guess it would be difficult. This is not situation like Tesla, where all dealers are the same company. Your dealer is making money by selling you or someone else that truck. Not sure they are going to let another dealer have that order. Plus you may Have agreed to a price when making the order. I suggest keep the order and making a second one with Chapman. You may get the second one first, then your issue is solved.

as for the second question, it seems dealers don’t actually want you to take the order because they can typically sell it for more to someone else

Not and keep your order number, but you certainly can switch to @Dealerinsider or use hus offer as a negotiation point. If you dont mind slipping the order number, chapman is a great delership

This is a bad move in practice, and a reason why ford requires confirmation of the purchaser identity

I think you will find it difficult as the dealer is the entity that is buying from Ford, and in turn selling to you, retail. They are the initial purchaser, for resale. You signed an agreement to buy at a given price, with some outs built in, and an agreement as to what happens should either party want do dissolve the agreement. So what they will do depends on how 'hard' they want to be and the dictates of the contract.
If there is no 'walk away' penalty, of course you can do that and place an order elsewhere. You would lose your 'place'(seems worthless to me) as the order actually is under the dealer control. They may not be flexible as they can sell your 'order' to someone else without penalty to them if you DO walk. They may also be able to add some ADM items... and 'popularity markup' to the MSRP. IOW, they don't CARE if you walk, and may welcome it and the extra(maybe) profit that entails.
Would losing your order hurt you? Dunno, depends on what you ordered. Tom or Steve W at Chapman could tell you better about the delay added, if there is one.
So far it seems people who ordered in June are still awaiting build confirmation while some who ordered a couple weeks ago have a build date set already. It is all in the components necessary for your build and the allotment to the dealer. They know better than I do.

No its not. Money talks and bullshit walks. Order through Chapman. See what one comes in first.

Also Chapman has been a pleasure to deal with.

There was no agreement with my order. I placed it and that was it. I was told they will negotiate final price once the truck come in. I am assuming they don't care much if I walk from it.

Yeah you need to run, if you don't have a price set up and don't have a plan (AZDX) to fall back on they could do MSRP or add on ADP.

Agreed, if you didn't go down to the dealership and sign some paperwork or in the case of people buying out of state sign some edocument then you need to bale out now and find a better dealer.
