People will do it, because there is basically zero risk.
There’s potential risk from a turn in the market. If interest rates keep rising, some will put off financing. If chip supply normalizes, more vehicles hit the market. If both happen (demand down and supply up), things will change drastically.

No one on here can say what will occur 8-10 months from now. Who knows whether we will even be here?
But I think the title is, “Are people going to order 2023 mavericks just to sell”.
Short answer: Yes, some will do that.

As to the debate on whether they will make money, no one knows. The crazy market we live in has gone on long enough, some don’t think it will ever end. I am old enough to know it will eventually. (same with houses - believe it or not, the 20-30% price increase year over year will not continue forever.)
Having said that, the days of getting thousands off a new car might be gone, as manufacturers are moving to a build-to-order system where people will get used to MSRP, but that doesn’t mean the supply/demand issue will last forever.

I'm not ordering just to sell, but my plan is to change my 2022 order with Long McArthur to a hybrid and keep my Granger order as an Ecoboost. Hopefully I will get the Granger order late this year and will be able to drive it for a while before the hybrid is built and delivered. Then, assuming the used vehicle market hasn't tanked, I will trade the EB on the hybrid, or just sell the EB and buy the hybrid.
I am doing exactly that tomorrow morning trading in the first edition gas for a lariat Lux hybrid I ordered last July

no one can say....but the LAST 2 full years, with no relief in sight, gives some "indication" that the problem is going to continue well into 2023....it is NOT just chips anymore...batteries are issues, all sorts of parts are issues...Any relatively intelligent person should know this problem will not go away in the next few months. Its not rocket science.

Once you get a vin you can get a carvana quote before you take delivery from Ford. Bad quote, thenb you just refuse delivery and get the deposit back. You are correct that there is a small chance you are stuck with the truck but generally those offers are good for a week so you can deliver and flip. Just have to invest time and cash.

Are there people out there who are going to buy a 2023 just to turn around and sell it or maybe sell their 2022 and wait for a 23 ?
Yes and I believe more than will admit.

I gave serious consideration to ordering a 2023 Hybrid XL in Oxford White with a trailer hitch receiver. Take delivery then sell.

After reading almost every MTC post about ordering, build times, delays, etc., by forum members for MY 2022 Mavericks, I decided against it.

It’s not unrealistic to assume that almost a year (or more) to pass between order date and delivery.

Too much can happen in the marketplace during that time period.

From tulip bulbs to dot com stocks to housing to meme stocks, people who say that there's no way to lose money and only chumps aren't in sure do seem to end up with the short end of the stick quite often.

This video has a hybrid and awd for different capabilities. If you would have paid $60k+ for one big truck, putting miles on both to last twice as long makes sense.

I would like to be able to keep both but that isn't really realistic, or necessary, for me. The other vehicle we have is a AWD RAV4 hybrid so I have the AWD angle covered already. I'm keeping my EB order as an AWD because I feel like that is the best way to go with the EB engine for both performance and resale later. I would have ordered a hybrid if I had discovered the Maverick existed before hybrid ordering was closed for 2022. The Granger $3k off MSRP deal is carrying over to 2023 for folks that get bumped from 2022 but it is only for EBs. So, I'm going to see if I can't avoid constraints on that order and get a build date ASAP. I'm still torn between ordering a XL with just 4k tow or getting a pretty basic XLT (I'm assuming I will get bumped to 2023 given my 1/25 order date with Granger).

I expect to be able to drive the EB for a while, I'm changing my LM order to a Lariat hybrid with CP360 and the Luxury package. Constraints will still be constraints and I see no reason why I won't have to wait 9 months to a year just like the early orders in 2021 did. I'll probably throw in a bed extender too.

As much as keeping both would be awesome I really can't justify paying insurance on two more vehicles, especially since I drive a vehicle owned by my employer back and forth to work. I would be surprised if I put more than 6-8k miles a year on one Maverick. Plus, with three vehicles in the driveway already parking will be at a premium without a second Maverick.

For all those Flippers out there, beware......https://www.mavericktruckclub.com/forum/threads/is-carvana-broken.18148/

You are right Craig! No matter who is buying your car or truck, never let them drive it away and hope you actually get the check you were promised. Carvana or any dealer can declare BK tomorrow and you will have to wait in line months to maybe get pennies on the dollar.

Instead, you can make a few thousand more selling it retail yourself rather than a wholesale flipper anyway. Advertise on Craigslist (costs $5), go to the bank with your buyer and watch him or her deposit a cashiers check into your account. Then immediately drive to Auto Club or the DMV to transfer title and release your liability on the spot. Deal done the same day and you know you will get full payment.

I would say at least %50 of 2023 orders will be for resale purposes.

My prediction, the car supply at dealerships wont improve (you still wont be able to just walk onto a lot and buy one without paying markup), but resell prices will go down due to recession/inflation.

So, while Hybrid XLs will still be profitable, they wont be nearly as profitable as this year.

That's news to me. I ordered a 2022 XL Ecoboost FWD - basic spec, nothing on it, $22,575 MSRP - for my dad who ended up not needing it. I kept it for a month and auctioned it off via Carmigo (they only auction to dealerships) on Memorial Day weekend. The high bidder was a Chevrolet dealership in Mississippi at $34,500. They picked up the truck June 6 from my home and ACH deposited the payment at the moment of pickup. After taxes/fees (including capital gains taxes) and everything I still came out about $8k ahead.

I'd say that is not bad for getting to put 2,000 miles on a Maverick, getting familiar with it, etc. I didn't buy it to sell it but I also did not need it for myself. So no, I would say you do not need to be a hybrid to make profit on selling your Mav.

Driving an XL EB and love it. Sports car fun! Peppy and fast in Sport Mode. Mine stays in Sport Mode even though I'm going to sacrifice 2 mpg it is well worth it to get the max fun factor from this little jewel. Ordering 2 ea. Hybrids next week. Plan to keep the XLT in Cyber Orange, trade in my XL (unless I decide to keep it. POWER)! The XL Hybrid will be my plaything to goof with the Market to see what happens. I don't put down a deposit and I am guaranteed MSRP by the GM at Autonation Panama City Florida in writting. All good. Bought 3 ea. new vehicles from them and they are fail dealers. I'm glad they're local, small but local. They had 2 ea. Ford's on the Showroon floor. One was a $93.000 F-150 and the only other one was an escape. Slim pickin's for the new car market here. Small dealeership. I won't have to make an ultimate decision until it rolls off the Hauler in Q4 2025!
